Pacquiao vs Marquez; early predictions

Pac by ref stoppage, after 2 knockdowns mid/late rounds.

 

Cautious early round or two, Pacquiao steps it up and gets the stoppage. Pacquiao's athleticism was the reason he was able to fight on virtually even terms with Marquez, add on his improved physical and technical skills, and this is why Pacquiao will be too much for a slowly declining and ageing Marquez.

 

I can understand why people are picking Pacquiao, but its puzzling to me to see so many people picking and believing that Pacquiao will just steamroll through Marquez.

Marquez boxing pedigree and know how must be factored into the equation.
There is'nt a Pac opponent past his rematch with Marquez that comes within sniffing distance of Marquez' boxing ability.

Every single Pacquiao opponent has been come foward mostly left hook happy fighters that suits Pacquiao's style and ability.

Its going to be 4 years since Pacquiao took on a fighter the skill level of Marquez, and I think it may very well be possible that Pacquiao and that whole Pacquiao team are going to be in for a shock when Marquez does'nt lend himself to be hit at will without as much as a response as has been the norm in everyone of Pacquiao's fights since Marquez.


Something to ask yourself.....what of Pacquiao's psyche when in the first couple of rounds Marquez is lateralling, slipping, and countering every Pacquiao advance?

Pacquiao has gotten used to having it his way in every one of his fights the last several years. Has'nt really had the need against the caliber and style of opposition he's had to make real adjustments in the ring.

This very fact may play in favor of Marquez as we know that when ever he's faced adversity in a fight, he does'nt let it effect his mindset and gameplan.

What I'm saying is that I question if Pacquiao may lose his patience and focus if things dont go his way early.
This happens when you're used to things just happening for you and all of a sudden your opponent does'nt want to cooperate.



Is any Pac fan here worried that stylewise, Pacquiao has had it too easy in the last several years?

 

Pacquiao that showed in the Cotto fight would win an early round KO.
Pacquiao that showed in the Mosley fight would win a UD.

I chose Pac UD JMM.

 

The same can be said about Marquez though, when was the last time he was in with someone as good as Pacquiao? (Ignoring Mayweather). When was the last time he was in with someone who fights like Pacquiao?

I can see what you're saying, but it's not just one way traffic when it comes to it. I'm pretty confident both camps will have their boxers prepared, I just think Pacquiao will have too much this time around considering he has improved since their last bout, and Marquez has been on a slow decline ever since.

 

He was past his prime for sure, but ability wise, Joel Casamayor is more versatile and skilled than any fighter that Pacquiao has faced since Marquez.

The point I was making however is that we know the ability and skill caliber of Marquez. Its a given he's got the skill to handle Pacquiao's style.

......but with Pacquiao, how do any of us really know the extent of his so called improvements when he's only been fighting the basic come foward stationary, left hook happy fighters that would have suited Pacquiao's style and strenghths even before his so called improvements??????

 

Well IMO, it's pretty clear Pacquiao has improved over the last 3-4 years, whether he has been fighting one style of fighter or not...I believe the improvements are there to be seen, and you don't need to see them against a certain style of fighter. The highlighted statement I made below is the difference in this bout IMO. But I guess we will see.

They were saying the same thing nearly 4 years ago, Pacquiao fresh off destroying Erik Morales.
I would guess that over 90% of the boxing media then did'nt give Marquez much of a chance.......

.....this scenario kind of reminds me of Holyfield vs Tyson. The media picked Tyson to massacre Holyfield, but even having seen Holyfield pick Tyson apart, the consensus was that Tyson took Holyfield lightly and the real Tyson would show up in the rematch.

.....seems like these boxing experts never learn....."Styles make fights."

 

Styles do make fights, and I think Marquez will have a little success, but not as much as he had in the previous two bouts. I want Marquez to do well, but he is not the same guy who fought Pacquiao in 2008, and Pacquiao is not the same either. JMM at this point is not hard to find, and there is a chance he could age over night...especially if Pacquiao puts his foot on the gas and is motivated for this bout.

But like I said, we will see.

 

Marquez was'nt hard to find 4 years ago.
Look at Roach's comments in the youtube clip I posted in my previous post.
Marquez had gave in and changed his style somewhat to become fan friendly and have a chance to land bigger fights, and was getting hit in his fights prior to the Pacquiao rematch. Roach mentions it in that clip I posted.

Whatever happens, believe me, Marquez is not going to be a fool and plant his feet to trade as he did for long spurts vs the likes of lesser fighters like Katsidis and Juan Diaz.
Marquez knows what he's facing against Pacquiao, and he's going to tweak his gameplan to avoid any prolonged exchanges where he plants his feet to trade.
People are sadly mistaken if they believe that he'll fight in the style he did vs Katsidis.

I've followed JMM for a long time, I know he has never been too hard to find, and I know he changed his style to a more fan friendly style. But I also see how he has subtly declined over the last couple years.

I still see Pacquiao having too much this time, you won't convince me otherwise.
