    Let's see it.

This is one of Khan with a long count that went under the radar.

I don't think Khan's was as clear cut as Bute's (from what I remember).

    Edit: Here's Bute's...

Count should have started at 0:59 (from what I can tell :blood), and But gets up at 1:08. But I don't know what the exact rules are on what constitutes as "getting up". Is it a case of simply getting up to your feet even if your head isn't cleared and you're still daisy (like Bute was)? Or do you have to be in a clear state to be able to continue?

But what is for definite, is the referee giving him a hell of a lot more than a 10 second count.

Another Edit: But Bute did get to his feet in 10 real seconds.

Bute got up before the unofficial 10 count. The round was over so him getting up = survival.

You can make a point that the ref should have stopped the fight in the 12th as Bute was taking a beating.

The Bute incident was disgraceful reffing

it reminded me of WWF wrestling tag team matches where Earl Hebner used to stop the face tag team partner from getting into the ring, while turning his back on the other face who was usually on the floor, while the two heels hit him with a chair or something

:think I thought at 0:58 he was on his way down, and by 0:59 he touched the floor. Can't tell properly from the that video. When does the count officially begin anyway? As soon as you hit the deck?

It is when any part other than your feet hit the floor, or if the ropes are holding you upright when you otherwise would be floored.

For all associations but one, you have to be able to continue except when it is round 12. As soon as his gloves clear the mat, he beats the count and since there is no time left on the clock, the fight should have been stopped right at that moment. Which would have spared me of a lot of writing.

Like another poster said, I can agree with anyone saying the ref COULD have stopped the fight before. Some refs would have done it, some not.

Bute was up at 8-9 in a real count. He barely beat it but he beat it.

A video of Bute against Zuniga, officiated by an American referee. The real count lasts 17 seconds. I've never heard Iceferg complain about it. :D

Im afriad he was floored from 57 when he clearly was no longer able to stand and the ropes kept him up

The guy was half conscious and stumbled across the ring and fell onto the ropes without a punch being thrown

The fight should have been stopped and the count should have started from the point he was no longer able to stand through his own volition

Bute was not up under his own power. If the ropes are the only thing holding a fighter up, that is considered a knockdown. If the ropes are the only thing holding a fighter who has been knocked down up, he is still considered down.

Bute was not up under his own power and should have been counted out. We have all seen guys leaning against the ropes get counted out and that should have been the case here.

It was a total sham; one of the worst referee jobs in the histoy of boxing. To Bute's credit he did grant a rematch, but he should have lost that fight.

Bute was exhausted NOT hurt. Period. In their second fight Lucian displayed a heartier warrior w/o the poor conditioning he maintained prior to Andrade 1.

BTW......counts are not measured by stop watches (7 seconds if you did), but rather by subjective measure by which the referee officially begins his count after the opponent has obeyed his command and headed for the nuetral corner. Most refs generally begin their count at 3-5 depending on the opponents discipline and willingness to follow the directions of the ref.

Bute, while exhausted and not hurt began his rise at 5, as was legally up by 7. Has the fight continued it would have been waved off as a TKO for Andrade.

Bute, being the BEST SMW in the world realized his gross mistake and corrected it in the rematch.

    BOOTAYE KO 4 Andrade.
