The ref is supposed to start the count when one fighter his the floor. If he has to get the other fighter away right away, he shall start the visible count(Picking up from whatever number he got to) right after getting the other fighter to the neutral corner.

They could have easily stopped Gatti Ward and Castillo.

I remember reading an article where it said how Bute was leaning on the ropes to stay up which means not up and wasnt able to show the ref he was OK by holding his hands up, so they said he should have had a KO loss.
I dont think many refs would allow a fighter that badly hurt that much give when they are just taking punishment and staggering around.

Still it didnt happen and Bute got to keep his 0.
I think Bute will turn out to be the top SMW

Yes, which is why there's only a 1-2 second differential as opposed to a 6-7 second differential. But the fact remains that there's ALWAYS a 1-2 second differential, and the timekeeper count is also always slightly slower than a chronological second. I picked two fights with multiple knockdowns because it makes it easier to review, but you can look at any number of fights in history and you'll see a pretty consistent 1-2 second differential from the time the fighter hits the canvas to where the count starts relative to chronological seconds.

Going by a cross-sampling of fights with knockdowns and the time differentials between the clocks and the official count, the average ref would have reached a seven or an eight count by the time Bute was up. Few, if any refs in history would have reached a 10 count before Bute was up.

The article would have been incorrect. The ref doesn't ask the boxer to walk towards him DURING the count. He asks after the count. He stops the count once the boxer is up, says, "walk towards me". If the boxer can successfully do that, the ref may ask if he's OK to continue, and then make a final determination. This ref didn't do that because technically the round was already over (Bute went down with four seconds remaining). The fighter doesn't need to be in condition to continue at the end of the final round, he just has to be able to beat the count, which he did, at around 3:04 of the 12th round.

listen icefag, actual stop watch means nothing in this case. the fighter doesn't go by an actual watch he goes by the refs count and by the refs shitty count he made it up in time, there's no telling if he woulda got up before an actual 10 count as he might have just been being smart and doing what any fighter who gets decked is supposed to do by staying down to get composure until he heard the ref saying "8-9" and he might have got up at "8-9" regardless of the length of the count

At first I thoght the ref (Luis Pabon) counted to fast. Then I thought it was right on the money. Now Iam yet again not sure.

Bute though, is up at 10 according to my count, on shaky legs though, so its a stoppage. You cant be saved by the bell in the last round under IBF rules.

In your example here, he gets the 4 count at 8:29, so again it's a one second differential. And that's with a fast count, too!

the "saved by the bell" clause is specific in its definition. "Saved by the bell" states that if the bells rings before the count is complete the fighter must still rise in time for the 10 count. They *don't* have to be on sturdy legs if there's no time left, however. That's not what "saved by the bell" means. The ref uses his own judgment to determine if the fight can continue, and since the fight is officially over (the count went beyond the end of the bout), there would be no reason for him to assess Bute's fitness to continue. There *is* no continue.

"Saved by the bell" rules would have ended the bout at around the 4 count while Bute was still trying to get up, and he wouldn't have had to get up. He was still required to get up before the count of 10, and he did.

That changes everything. Never noticed that the fight actually ended :D Bute wins then.

Refs are a bit slow or a bit fast most of the time it could seem. But I still believe I have watched some get the count right :think

Here the ref counts to slow, Not that it mattered though, as he stops it anyway:

bute got up before 10 but was leaning on the ropes for support, if he was in the middle of the ring he might have fallen down again.

one thing for sure, if the round has not finished and there was even 10 secs left the ref should have stopped it.

I was wondering now if it still counts as been up, when leaning up the ropes(as he actually does) after the bout has ended.(if it really did end). cause there seems to have been three seconds left. The bell sounds three seconds after the ref lets Bute continue..

why stop a fight where it is clear as day that he was not hurt but exausted, he did not go down because of constent punching, andrade was hardly hitting him clean, the scandle would have bin if the ref had stoped it, bute lead the hole fight and u would take away his belt by stopping the fight in final seconds of last round com on, the only one responsible is andrade because he would not stay in nutral corner as repeated by ref, and before u start with the ref was sold, do some research on other marlen right fight and you will see that he is always strick with that rule, he has actualy done it to pascal the local favorite in a :dealmontreal fight.
