he is ****ing bad.....BAD failed baseball writer was journalising a ali match and considered it his business to sharpen up...to most today he is a guy from an older era. he is ****ing fake as anything. he just holds the image of a wellknower. he isn't his boxing knowledge is story telling and in that he has only 10 and doesn't allow truth to get in the way of a good story. because of that he is an awful historian...which leads me to think..what the **** do you do!?!?? he had money to get the posiion and that was it. classic forum would obliterate him in knowledge. like easy. he reminds me of the guy in the pub who will remind everyone that henry cooper was unlucky with alis split glove and that
Nice guy, but needs to retire. The dude's whole "schtick" is dressing up like a character. WTF? It is time for new blood.
hes a ****ing nitwit of the highest order..his top heavyweight list is a ****ing joke.no lewis in the top 10..lol wtf is he smoking..plus his opinion on euro fighters is ****ing shamefull he basicly asked america to boycot boxing because of european fighters lmao what a ****ing arsehole
Bert yearns for the glory days of boxing - the 30's and 40's , when a friendly cornerman of sicilian extraction would pat the .38 roscoe in his breast pocket to remind the fighter what round to take a nap in , back then they knew how to look after ex fighters - you could always be sure to run into former light heavy champ kingfish levinsky selling 1 dollar ties while he talked to himself or get your shoes shined by record breaking light weight Beau jack on your way to the garden . Bert sure does love them good old days :-(
He actually does one thing very similar to Larry Merchant. He tries to be so colorful that his comments often lose their meaning, for the reader or viewer anyway. And his analogies are atrocious. If I never hear/read that Evander Holyfield is the little engine that could again, I'll still picture Thomas the Train everytime The Real Deal is mentioned:verysad
Bert is a raconteur - nothing more, good for an anecdote or trotting out the odd well known bit of boxing mythology but as an historian of the fight game he's a fail - Mike Tyson would wipe the floor with him when it comes to historical boxing knowledge - in fact maybe its time that Bert was put out to pasture and HBO or someone allowed iron mike to display his world class boxing lore.
I dont mind him despite the fact that he is incrediblly biased to old time fighter. He's a character.
A decrepitate old whining **** that likely watches all of the recent Pac man, Mayweather and Klitschko fights on his black and white tv just for the effect. Never the less, he does smoke a cigar and wear a fedora so his opinion can't be dismissed.
