1st profesional fight [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLmSTMwggxk&feature=channel_video_title[/ame] 3rd fight after loss to Norris [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaoAb9zK2vE&feature=relmfu[/ame]
The Robert Medina (or whatever his name really was) fight is a great display of Meldrick's speed too.
Hats off to MT. JCC was one of my heroes growing up, but MT left a big impression on me. He had too much Philly in his heart. In the rematch with Chavez and fight with Norris Im a huge fan of Terrible Terry I'm from Texas, but for some reason wanted for Taylor to at least last the distance. I know this is MT's thread, but anyone notice Terry on Victor's side on fight night?
Meldrick had greatness... but he never reaped the benefits of it. Bad luck and circumstance. A true tragedy.

Another fight of his I like was the Glenwood Brown bout, which was his last notable win. Taylor was already showing signs of decline, having moved up in weight after taking that bad physical beating against Chavez. He was dropped twice and stunned on other occasions. Still, he tougher it out and won a hard fought, deserving decision.
Yeah, and that fat piece of **** (Lou Duva) is later recorded saying that he didn't tell Taylor that he needed to win the last round. :-(
Duva in post fight interviews:"Box, Box, make believe your Muhammad Ali." During the actual fight prior to the 12th:"You need this round!"
Aaron Davis was probably the 2nd best win of his career behind Buddy McGirt. There's a pretty good intro on the Norris-Taylor fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riYBgknSK7E[/ame]
:happy:happy:happy Good thread. It bores me when people forget Meldrick's career and speak of him only with reference to a fight he lost. Meldrick Taylor vs Buddy McGirt was one of the best wins and best performances of the 1980s. Meldrick was a prodigious talent and a superb fighter in his own right.
