It sounds like YPH was getting disheartened as a result of the cut, and Cunningham's sometimes illegal attempts to target it. Since most of the posters here had Hernandez winning the first two rounds, we can't say the fight goes down the same way, and that USS doesn't come on quite as strong in the next three rounds.

Let's see what takes place when they inevitably rematch.

This is all I have left to say on that match:

    A) The count was too long.

    B) The count could have been eschewed altogether, given how hard Cunningham fell and how he was scratching and clawing at the canvas and looking dazed and doe-legged trying to rise.

    C) Cunningham did well to come back (it isn't his fault the ref ****ed up), and forced a draw on my card by the time of the stoppage. Anything around that is appropriate - Cunningham by a point or two, or Hernandez by a point or two. In other words, the official cards weren't all that far off except maybe the 59-54 on..which was only out of the proper range by a point.

    D) Cunningham was blatantly billy-goating.

    E) Hernandez and his corner did kind of pack it in and quit, gambling on the technical decision rather than keep getting beat up with Yoan clearly affected by the cut.

    F) The cut doesn't have to LOOK bad to you to have an effect on the bout. It clearly affected Hernandez. Maybe he just has a poor threshold for discomforts like that, and maybe it was a wussy move for him to pack it in and quit (in his body language, even before the end of the sixth round) - but only he knows how much the cut affected him personally. The contrast between his strong start and his behavior AFTER the cut should tell any sane person that it was more than he was capable of coping with.

    G) There should be a rematch. Cunningham wants it. It shouldn't be in Germany, and the judges and ref should be from somewhere other than the UK. Of course, everyone said there "should be a rematch" in Cunningham-Ross...so if it doesn't happen, it could be seen as another case of "turnabout is fair play..."

A rematch is not a fait accompli. Let's remember that this is the cruiserweight division where there is typically little financial momentum for fights to take place. Even in Germany, Cunningham is not a popular fighter, I suspect less so after tonight's prima donna interview. For Hernandez, there are more financially appealing options, like a fight with Huck.

    :happy

I didn't get to see the whole fight. I saw the first butt, which looked unintentional.

I watched like 3 rounds, and Hernandez was getting the better of the action.

wait i dont see the controversy here, i didnt watch the fight but....

he had a cut from a clash they go to the cards

most of the posters on here said they had Hernandez ahead...so why is everyone complaining

isnt it protocol for a bad cut to stop a fight and go to the cards

    It pretty obviously affected him.

Hernandez before cut = good, in control.

Hernandez after cut = copped a beating.

Now, you CAN say he's a ***** for being that badly affected by what was in the grand scheme of things a relatively small cut by boxing standards - but the fact is that his performance was affected by it. That is an empirical FACT.

Yeah, and its also clear Hernandez's corner was calling the ref over cause they saw Cunningham taking over the fight. It's an underhanded way to win a title, is all.

I'll be the first to admit. You don't have to dig, I talked about Cunn looking flat and thinking he'd lose after the first round.

You state things as fact all the time giving no leeway for difference of opinion, something that boxing brings to the table that few sportscome close to doing to the same degree.

I admitted I'm a "USS cheerleader" like you say, so please be an equal man and admit that USS beat the 10 count.

"I'll let this outburst slide..." Like you're a ****ing God or something. What is it with people on ESB that think they're all that like CHEF, Cintron's old trainer, and apparently you too... You are no different than I. Lost mad respect for you today IB...
