    1. Duran
    2. Ali
    3. Hagler
    4. Leonard
    5. Whitaker
    6. Chavez
    7. Monzon
    8. Napoles
    9. Jones
    10. Arguello

I think Pac, Floyd, Holmes, Spinks, Hopkins, Hearns, Sanchez, Marcel, Nelson and McCallum have a decent argument for a spot at the bottom of the list.

For what it's worth, I think Jones and Floyd are the two biggest underachievers on that list, given the amount of talent they had.

To be honest, I`ve only seen about 3 full fights of Monzon`s & the rest in highlights, his style is a style I found difficult to watch, I admired his consistency & effectiveness & he IS 1 of the greatest ever MWs, I don`t feel however that he is a `better` fighter than any of the men on my list, he MIGHT be `greater` but since I haven`t put in enough study time on him I can`t/won`t have him on my list.

Vitali or Lewis should be nowhere near a top 10 of the last 40 years list, unless your talking strictly HWs.

I took the whole careers of every fighter here into question when making the list, but if we're restricting it to post-1970 achievements only then I'd re-arrange my list to:

    1.Duran
    2.Ray Leonard
    3.Ali
    4.Whitaker
    5.Monzon
    6.Arguello
    7.Pacquiao
    8.Napoles
    9.Spinks
    10.Jones Jr

Hagler over Leonard? Chavez over Monzon? Jones over Pacquiao? Your list surprises me my friend.

    Hey Pop, let me explain:

I thought Hagler beat Leonard, who was a stylistically difficult opponent for Hagler, especially given his age, so even though Leonard was the one moving up and disadvantaged through a lay off, I still give Marvin a lot of credit for that fight.

Furthermore, I thought Hagler beat Antuofermo and Watts comfortably, and beat Duran comfortably too. He just had a great, great, dominant career imo.

With Chavez and Monzon, I think Chavez beat a better calibre of fighters overall, and whilst I am in the minority (perhaps totally in my own world) on this one, I think Valdez beat him in the rematch, which kind of takes a bit of shine off Carlos.

With Jones and Pac, I just like Jones' dominance better. I don't think anyone really got close to him until he was quite a bit past his best. So his dominance was huge for me. Griffith annoyed him for a bit, but was on the way to being ko'ed even in their first fight imo.

Pac has had a few fighters challenge him like Morales and JMM and some of his more big name wins have been off fighters that I think shouldn't be regarded as massive wins (e.g. DLH). That said, a win over Mayweather would put Pac above Roy for me. Roy's dominance notwithstanding. I also have to say, I like Pac's willingness to fight a lot of fighters a lot and I detest Roy's reluctance, so that should count for something too in the final analysis.

Leonard is overrated, Chavez is overrated, Spinx is overrated

    1) Duran
    2) Hagler
    3) Jonz
    4) Monzon
    5) Ali
    6) Arguello
    7) Tyson
    8) Camacho Sr
    9) Hopkinz
    10) Floyd Jr

Jonz does very well here beating out many thought better than him. Roy never really lost in his prime and no one could be a match for him.

Camacho too damn fast for anyone, and Hopkinz for his longevity.

Leonard didnt have enough fights and would be near the top if he tackled Pryor, Curry, Nunn & defeated all of them. A tall order to be sure but someone as great as SRL should be able to pull it off

Spinx a near great, but not memorable

My rationale there is as follows:

He owed Vitali and the fans that rematch. Best heavyweight fight in forever and I really thought Vitali was on the way to winning it big. Legit win for Lewis but if you want to be a great champion you give that rematch. Puts Vitali above Lewis IMO.

In actual career accomplishments Lewis is higher, but that's not to say Vitali wouldn't have handled all Lewis's opponents as well as Lewis did or better.

It's a stretch including either of them I admit, but I'm not putting Pacquiao in there what with all this catchweight nonsense and his matchmakers picking relative no-hopers. Mayweather hasn't done enough (and it's his own fault, which costs him). Jones is hurt by cherrypicking (and unlike Pacquiao's situation, it was definitely Roy's intent to fight who he fought instead of who he could have fought). Plus the steroids.

Couple that I might be sleeping on are Whitaker, Arguello, and Napoles. Didn't know enough about them to know whether to include them but I'm seeing them in a lot of lists here.

Fighters also get points with me by being 'great' in the sense that they were the face of boxing or transcended the sport. Tyson, Ali, maybe Leonard to a lesser extent, etc.

You have to admit my list isnt half as bad as yours. You actually had Ray Leonard third and Roy Jonz 10th

you give SRL top honors based on winz over the big namez so there shouldnt be a problem if I bring in Norris or Camacho for the same reason.

why shouldnt Camacho be here with his record & umatched prowess & dominance? he ruled 3 divisions in the 80s, and unlike Sugar, he actually defended all his titles. Plus he defeated him head to head by knockout

My champion trumps yours easily h2h, in # bouts, & defenses

I dont seee the problem with placing Tyson where he belongz. he ruled tha last half of the decade. Namez like Chavez, Whitaker + everybody else were all in his shadow. MT the main attraction
