    Webb-Arron is still my domestic FOTY so far. When watching it live, it just had all the drama you could want in a fight. Webb outboxing Arron in the first four rounds making it look easy, then almost took out in the fifth, somehow surviving and having his moments right through to the last round when Arron finally got the job done.

    It was a cracking fight.

    Sturm-Macklin

    R1 - Macklin
    R2 - Macklin
    R3 - Macklin
    R4 - Sturm
    R5 - Macklin
    R6 - Macklin
    R7 - Macklin
    R8 - Macklin
    R9 - Macklin
    R10 - Sturm
    R11 - Sturm
    R12 - Sturm

    116-112 Macklin

    Good fight:thumbsup

    I remember watching this live, not scoring it that diligently and I had it really close but watching it again I feel this is pretty close to a robbery. Sturm does nowhere near enough in so many rounds where Macklin is working well to the body and clearly outworking the champion. A lot of Macklin's head-shots seemed to be landing on or just behind the ear to me but the ref was letting it go thankfully and although I gave Sturm the last 3 where Mack seemed a bit knackered, clear fight and we should have had a new title-holder.

    Great fight. I had it for Sturm quite clearly. A good 6 rds were a toss up though that I couldn't argue with anybodys scoring.

    Watched Pacquaio vs Barrera 1 today. Never seen Barrera with that look in his eye. Pacquaio won every rd for me. Great fight
    :thumbsup

    Do you remember by how many points you had it to Sturm? For me I think there were two close rounds where I gave the edge to Macklin which would have seen a draw but don't think I could have given Sturm any more than that.

    Dave McAuley Vs Rodolfo Blanco I

    MCAULEY: 1; 4; 5; 6; 7; 9 (+1); 10;
    BLANCO: 2 (+2); 3(+1); 8; 11 (+1); 12

    McAuley 111-112 Blanco

    Fireworks here in a close, competitive and exciting 12-round battle. McAuley, defending his IBF Flyweight strap, goes in with strong Colombian Rodolfo Blanco, who had been stopped once previously, against longtime light-fly title-holder, once-beaten Yuh, and had been on a six or seven fight stoppage streak including a really faded Betulio Gonzalez on the comeback trail.

    McAuley, a courageous banger, gets dropped heavily 3 times in the opening 3 rounds, but comes back to buckle Blanco a few time in the next few rounds with his always-dangerous left hook. The 7th, which Reg Gutteridge calls as a clear round for Blanco, was clearly McAuleys IMO, as he worked throughout, put his punches together well (especially his left hand, which he rammed in with uppercuts and hooks to head and body whenever in close) and came through a massive right hand off an accurate jab from the challenger. But he braved it, and won the round by working well throughout for me, that, love shot towards the end was Blancos only success of the round.

    In the 9th, McAuley snatches an extra point very late on. A close battle of wits throughout, 'Boy' proves his superior by shuffling into southpaw stance with a right hand feint and dropping Blanco with a short left hand. Nice work from McAuley, who you'd never really describe as cute or flashy. and a 10-8 round for his troubles in a round he was just edging anyway IMO. Harsh luck for the challenger in McAuleys terrirtory.

    In the Championship rounds, McAuleys face deteoirates fast. Cut under both eyes and swollen, he gets caught going back by another nicely-thrown 1-2 and dropped, giving up the 11th and another point. How bad it must've been to have beena fan of McAuleys when he was active, as he was a real exciting fighter who fought with his heart on his sleeve.

    Blanco takes the final round with his jab and movement, as Dave tries hard to get something going but can't. Really close and competitive fight with some close rounds and loads of thrills as well.

    The Dane has it 117-113 McAuley, abysmal.

    Blanco would go on to take the title from McAuley later on, but I ain't seen that. Does anyone here recall how it went down?

    Making my way through the kind of fringe contender/up and comers at middle in preparation for a mega thread.

    Geale
    Proksa
    N'Jikam
    Golovkin
    Lee
    Pirog
    Lemieux
    Chavez Jr
    Barker
    Macklin
    Quillin(campaigning at 160lbs now apparently)
    Britsch
    Maybe McEwan and Murray too.

    A kind of "what happens post Martinez" sort of thing.

    Nice, thing is, if a few of those fights happened now then Sergio would have a viable challenger.

    I'm thinking NJikam Vs Sturm, G. Golovkin Vs Pirog. That keeps it in Europe, doable, and the winners face off for a unification.

    Winner gets exposure off back of that, fights Martinez in States.

    Barker Vs Macklin, over 'ere, for first shot at unified champ :tong

    But yeah, whenever Martinez bows out/moves up/moves down for superfight **** knows, it has the makings of a really intriguing division.

    The kind of talent that would make for a decent division most years to be honest, if the right figths wre made we've get rid of the 'prospects' and 'contenders' and establish some formidable fighters pretty quickly IMO. Look forward to the thread, didn't see Proska-Sylvester, what happened there?

    Jung Koo-Chang Vs Humberto 'Chiquita' Gonzalez

    CHANG: 2; 3; 7;
    CHIQUITA: 1; 4; 5; 6; 8; 9; 10; 11; 12

    Chang 111-117 Chiquita

    Gonzalez defends his title against the man who relinquished it, the greatest Light Fly of all time, Chang!

    I think you could conceivably give Chang 4 rounds as well as give him 0 rounds, as in the few rounds of the fight he looks anywhere near on top they are in closely contested rounds where both men go to war. Chang could still get in range, but couldn't get out of range and lacked the reflexes in head/upper body movement to get out of the way of Chiquitas straight left, and would primarily use his crafty in-fighting than his loose mid-range game and high-tempo swarming. He looked past his best, but put in a sterling effort on the inside throughout, so no excuses and full credit to Gonzalez, despite his epic series with Carbajal, I would say this is his best win.

    Even backed up against the ropes, as he is a lot in this fight, Gonzalez manages to win this fight as well, winging heavier leather throughout and really putting a beating on Chang in the Championship rounds.

    As clear a win as I remembered. 117-111 for 'Chiquita' Gonzalez. Chang was done at Light Fly.

    Proksa completely dissected and dismantled him, he really was sensational when you take into account the expectations people had before hand. I said it in the RBR, that I'd been touting Proksa a bit in the fight and expected him to take it, but dear lord not to that extent, his style is hell for any stereotypical ''European style'' fighters which I'm sure he'll be taking on as EBU champ.

    He's the kind of fighter designed to take a guy like Hurrikan apart, very unorthodox, varies his movement between clockwise and anti-clockwise, not allowing Seb to set himself, launching in lead left hands and right uppercuts before reeling away again. What I had anticipated was that as he was pulling back Sylvester could've caught him with a jab or two - clean, scoring ones - due to his(Proksa's) low hands, which would've given him a round or two on accuracy because his guard is usually water tight.

    Not the case though, Proksa continually penetrated his guard with almost every combination he threw and Sylvester was left completely static, not throwing 'out. He almost looked in shock really, it was like watching a pound shop version of Donaire-Sydorenko, with specific emphasis placed on pound shop there. His face got mangled and he was pulled out in the corner after only a few rounds.

    Really like the look of Proksa(no Manilow), very unconventional yet effective.

    Pone Kingpetch Vs Pascual Perez I

    KINGPETCH: 1; 4; 5; 7; 10;
    PEREZ: 2; 3; 6; 11; 12; 13; 14;

    A few rounds missing, some rounds incomplete. This is obviously a Thai re-broadcast (with Khaosai on colour commentary duties) so I dunno if any of yous have seen a more complete version? Hard-to-gauge but I'd say Perez got the better of what I have on this fight, though Kingpetch more than held his own with arguably the greatest Flyweight of all time. Can I see a feasible swing in Kingpetch's favour? Yes, but I can also see why some posters I really respect call this an out-and-out robbery. For me, working with what I have, this is a closely contested fight between two legendary Flys. Luckily, they fought again due to the controversial nature of their first fight.

    Pone Kingpetch Vs Pascual Perez II

    KINGPETCH: 1; 2; 5; 7;
    PEREZ: 3; 4; 6;

    The legendary Argie travels to Thailand again to try and wrest his title from the lanky Thai fly Kingpetch. Another competitive fight, I could see either 4-3 up by the end of the fight, an 8th round cut stoppage win for Kingpetch, also not that conclusive.

    Pacquaio vs Barrera 2.
    11-1
    Not as exciting as their first meeting.

    Barrera vs J.M. Marquez
    6-5
    9-9 on the 7th. Gave the KD but took a point for the foul. Also JMM was winning the rd until KD

    Amazing fight.
