Was just gonna write this. It's often said that guys like Wade & even LeBron would have looked mediocre in the Jordan era. And sometimes I really believe it.
coz most boxers are a bunch of uneducated cry babies. but this is not rampant. there's a few who stays class. but the real answer is... that's how you sell a boxing fight. unlike basketball, footbal, or even tennis, boxing has no seasons. if you can't sell a fight then there's no reason for you to fight again. just check mayorga. he calls his opponents putos and maricons, but apologizes after the fight win or lose. however, there's a dude who missed the entire concept of selling a fight. his name is floyd jr.
I will have to disagree on this one. The training facilities and equipment are better than ever. Do you know how much did VCR cost back in 70s? The information on techniques is abundant and easily accessible. With the fall of iron curtain there are more people competing in amateurs than ever. People tend to use their old favorites as benchmarks for younger generations without giving their favorites much of a critical thought. I say boxers of today are much more defensively adept than 40 years ago and therefore the fights seem less exciting but the average level of skill is way better.
Name another sport... Where the top competitors get to pick & choose their opponents? Name another sport... Where the "powers that be" keep promising prospects in the shadows, to protect the paydays of their top clients for as long as possible? I rest my case.
I already said I agree with that. The only thing though is the trainers themselves aren't as good at teaching skill and technique. The conditioning and training methods are better, but the athletes aren't as genetically good as they used to be
Tennis- Djokovic's success is because Federer is old, Nadal is too injury prone ;-) Cricket- England's test success is because they refuse to play South Africa
Says who??? Name me someone from back in the day more genetically gifted than the Klitschkos? Jeff Lacy? Roy Jones? You saying that, doesnt make it true
Yeah I'm not talking about one example buddy. I'm talking about the whole sport, not a few fighters. If you get 50 random guys to try out for a team then you get 500 random guys to try out for another team and the best 12 get chosen which one do you think will be better?
thats not true, the 80's were a far superior decade in both basketball and Hockey. Baseball sucks, but I would not say it is at a high point either. Golf . . . BORING. In tennis I would say Borg and McEnroe would be up there with the best. Soccer, is at a high point right now. For some reason fans today think bigger automatically means better! The main problem with boxing is that fighters do not fight enough so they tend to not learn enough in the ring. when you are fighting every month you pick up a lot. Its hard to get that kind of knowledge in the training unless you have exceptional trainers. Bhop, PBF, and Toney, are called old school for a reason and that is because they have learn the tricks of the trade that have made them great.
you're not that smart are you? I was talking about his last point when he said Mayorga know how to sell a fight, but Floyd doesn't
