Williams (6'4), dzin (6'1), barker (6'1)? <<< those were smaller fighters? Lol. Dont give me (but williams and dzin dont have middleweight size) well neither does martinez. And now some here are bashing martinez for not accepting hopkins challenge? Lol whats with you ppl? Why cause martinez called out mayweather and pacquiao? Where was hopkins bashing when he wanted to fight a much smaller de la hoya? Where was vargas bashing for wanting to fight a smaller oscar when oscar was a ww that time? Where is gamboa for wanting to fight a smaller donaire? I can go on and on and on but you dont get it cause mostly here on esb posters are idiots. All martinez is doing what alot of ppl have already done and thats wanting to fight fighters that are superstars with bigger purse. Hopkins dont bring huge money fight that mayweather and pacquiao brings.

because people here play too many video games and think...well, if he fiught at 160, then 168 aint a problem....or catch weight of 172 against a light heavy shouldnt be a prob...even though, looking back at history...how many guys who started at welterweight, had any success at 168 or 175?
    too many idiots on here
could sergio beat a 168 pound guy? maybe...but shouldnt be called a coward if he dont try..when he has had 4 or 5 fights ever at middle...and 45 fights or so at 154 or 147

I don't agree with the statement that Martinez wont fight bigger fighters, but him calling out those divisions below him does not help.

Also, just because you're taller does not necessarily mean you are bigger.

splitting hairs now....bigger means, a guy that is a natural fighter at that division...while you have moved up from lower weights.....thus...barker being a bigger man

Dzin is 6'1 and taller, but he was NOT a natural fighter at middleweight. He was a light middleweight.

Hagler had beat everyone ranked in the top 10 at MW by the time he fought Hearns , Leonard, and Duran. Marvin is also 5'9" and walked around under 165 lbs.

I agree, bashing Martinez for wanting to fight Mayweather is absurd.

I can understand the pac thing though, Pac is a small welter and martinez is a middleweight, that fight shouldnt happen.

But Mayweather vs Martinez is a perfectly acceptable fight and martinez challenging him is completely fair.

People act like Martinez has come down from light heavy or something, the dude is a 154lber fighting at middleweight.

    Hes recently fought

    Cintron
    Williamsx2
    Pavlik
    Dz
    Barker

none of them are smaller then Martinez.... not sure wtf people are thinking.

I don't think his height has much to do with anything. Marvin Hagler was a legitimate Middleweight who's greatest win is over a former Welterweight. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this. Historically the best Middleweight in the world has always met the best Welterweight in the world. Monzon/Napoles? Martinez is well in his rights to call for a fight with the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather, who aren't ordinary fighters by any standard. He shouldn't be subjected to criticism. This is the way it has always been.

I think it's pretty obvious Martinez isn't big as he's made out to be. The jump from 160 to 168 is pretty major.

    Sounds slightly familiar.

Didn't they have day in weigh ins at that time anyway? MWs were a little smaller back then.
