Cuban Cruiserweight Yoan Pablo Hernandez just became Cuba's 11th pro World Champion by capturing the IBF World Belt by defeating Steve Cunningham by SD a little while ago.

IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (24-3, 12 KOs) lost a controversial six round technical decision to interim champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez of Cuba (25-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany. Southpaw Hernandez, dropped Cunningham with a short left hand in round one and Cunningham barely beat the count and barely survived the round. Cunningham seemed recovered by round two (trainer Nazeem Richardson bought Cunningham some extra time by spilling water in the corner). Hernandez surprisingly didn’t jump on Cunningham in round two, letting the champion further recover and clear his head. Hernandez was cut on the left side of his head in round three and over his right eye in round six by head clashes and Cunningham seemed to outbox Hernandez from round three on. Referee Mickey Vann surprisingly waved it off after the sixth round due to the cuts, which didn’t seem particularly bad. Scores were 57-56 Cunningham, 58-55 and 59-54 for Hernandez. Cunningham was very upset by the sudden stoppage.

YPH caught USS for good in the 1st who should've been counted out, but Vann gave him a long count. Then a headbutt by Cunningham opened up a cut, Vann didn't make a ruling. Then when USS was growing strong and YPH going weak - Vann all of the sudden stops it, too wide scores, although, as said, it should've been YJH KO1... but also USS TKO late... could've been USS UD as well... instead its YPH by split technical decision... wow!

 

I'm upset Hernandez didn't jump on USS after the knockdown :verysad.
