I agree that Martinez should not be bashed for not fighting Bhop or calling out PBF and Pac. This is a sport and a BUSINESS, and serg wants to make as much money as he can so of course he is going to call out the cash cows in boxing.

BTW, every fighter mentioned has been bashed one way or another for calling out smaller guys.

I saw someone mention MMH, He was the man (THE MW CHAMP . . . the second most coveted belt in boxing after HW) back in those days everyone moved up to fight the champ. The only guy he really called out was SRL . . . once again that was for a payday.

sergio isnt a natural fighter at middleweight, hes a natural welterweight.....
and i was referring to the others, not the 1 light middleweight guy you pulled from the stack..
    pavlik, middlewweight
paul williams- huge welter, light middle
    barker- turned pro at 168

he fought pirog, because he was the only guy with balls that would fight him...not one of the pretenders who hold IBF, WBO, IBF, WBO "middleweight titles" will have **** to do with him.....

Height and weight play a factor. It's a much bigger disadvantage for a small WW to fight a big MW, than for a big WW to fight a small MW. I don't see how you can say a 5'9" Hagler who walks around at 163 or so, fighting a 6'1" Tommy Hearns how had been campaigning at 154, is the same as Martinez fighting Mayweather or Pacquiao. However, I will say that Martinez calling those guys is fine considering he said he would do it at 150 lbs.

How about 5'10 Leonard who hadn't fought for three years? Former Featherweight, Roberto Duran? Much the smaller man at 5'7. Hearns was a freak of nature, and he'd go on to win a title at Light Heavyweight, but the other two were clearly smaller men. I don't recall Hagler being criticised too often for those fights. It's actually said that Leonard took advantage of Hagler. That always draws a chuckle. :yep

I don't have a problem with Sergio calling out Floyd and Manny and I want Floyd and expect him to fight Sergio, but it's different than Bernard and Hagler.

Pac started at 105 and Floyd started at 130. Neither one of them has weighed over 152 pounds on the day of the fight. Both have only fought at light middleweight once and both didn't even make weight.

Duran started lower than Floyd, but he at least has a title at Middleweight. (Though he had never fought at the weight prior to Hagler)

SRL started his career at 140 if I'm correct and is actually taller than Hagler. Ray also has a title at SuperMiddle and LightHeavy :nut

Hearns has fought as high as cruiserweight and is 5 inches taller than Halger.

You can try to compare them, but it's not exactly the same.

Leonard had campaigned at 154 and he's the one who came out of retirement and said he wanted to fight Hagler. Those two were pretty much the same size. Duran was a smaller man. However, he at least had campaigned at 154. And again, Hagler had cleaned out the MW division by the time he fought these guys.

Both Pavlik and Williams are bigger sized opponents. Both of them had reach and height advantages which are major if they know how to use it, obviously Pavlik doesn't.

I would argue that those two examples are much worse than a potenitial Martinez vs Mayweather/Pacquiao showdown. Leonard was effectively retired when he stepped in the ring to fight Hagler. He hadn't fought for three years. Duran, as you say, started as a Featherweight, and had no Middleweight credentials at all.

Great Middleweights fight great Welterweights. It's always happened. You can tell us that Leonard wasn't actually smaller because he was an inch taller, but that's ridiculous.

    You forgot Kelly Pavlik 6'2.

Martinez is going to have a lot of problems fighting smaller quicker guys with hand speed truthfully. On the level of Pac-Mayweather I should say.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if he wasn'g calling out fighters a division or two below him, constantly. He's not willing to fight cotto at 154 because he can't make that weight but claims he'll go down to 150 for PAC and pbf... WTF???

Bute is at 168 if he wants a big money fight. He weighed in at 165 fight night, then ge can just come in at that weight if he wants.

Pirog is in his division if he wants a challenge

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr have also campaigned above Welterweight. Pacquiao at a catchweight, and Mayweather of course fought Oscar for the Light Middleweight title.

What Middleweight would you suggest Martinez fight? Pirog? Sturm?

he should be allowed to call out who ever he wants. Also if he doesnt want to move up and fight at a weight he's never fought at he shouldn't have to.. Pac and Floyd both are former 154 pound champions and it sums up how gay boxing is becoming that a guy is getting stick for calling out the p4p1 and p4p2!!

similar to Canelo and Chavev jnr dont hold a title if your not ready to fight contenders!!! also dont win titles if you cant defend them and then laugh at people who call you out at that weight.

They both weighed in at 150 or lower for their JMW bouts. They are obviously too small for JMW. Yeah, Pirog would be a good fight for Martinez. Why shouldn't he fight the other champions in his division?

Lmao, then that makes Pac a natural flyweight or superbantamweight and Floyd a natural superfeatherweight
