Holyfield was often drawn into wars. Would Ruddock crack Holy's chin more often than Tyson's? Bert Cooper hurt Holy badly, why not Ruddock? Thoughts?

He'd be affected to a greater extent. But maybe not, as he wouldn't be rushing forward as often. When force meets force, punches do greater damage. That's precisely why Tyson's chin is greatly underrated.

I've always felt fighters like Holyfield, Ali, Mercer, who are given the distinction of having solid chins (which they do by the way) have the added advantage of having style that incorporates back pedaling giving them ample time to recover when hurt whereas a fighter like Tyson, Frazier or Marciano who constantly move forward as a necessity continue to press on without getting a proper chance to recuperate.

Take Holyfield Mercer for example. Mercer was hurt in the 9th round and it was pretty obvious the way he was avoiding Evander. Holyfield was stalking towards the end of the fight and if Ray was strictly a come forward fighter he'd have been stopped. But he retreated and fought off the back foot and bought himself enough time to recuperate and went on to lose a decision in a very competitive fight.

As for the question; smart money says Holyfield survives and wins but it's very likely he suffers a knockdown. IMO Tyson had the better chin shot for shot but Holyfield recuperated better.

Well said. I'm not sure if that's necessarily even true physically, maybe psychologically (Or maybe physically and also stylistically). Well phrased either way.

You could say the same about guys like Tua and Chuvalo (To a mix extent of the Frazier-Tyson-Marciano group to the Mercer-Holyfield group). A lot of times you'd see Chuvalo setting up shop with his gloves tucked shelling shots. It's not the same as LaMotta taking on full fledged shots coming forward with his hands down against SRR (Always why I thought LaMotta may have had the greatest chin, especially considering he sometimes drained himself to make MW).

Geez...Ruddock is not a great finisher, he couldn't put anything together against Tyson except for one spacious bomb at a time. Damn hard to knock out a man that way, even Foreman and Shavers had to corner guys and put more than a few punches together most of the time.
