Except his guard barely closes showcasing that he wasn't expecting Pac to reach. I'm not referring to what Floyd would do or what Manny would do when they fight, I was talking about reach as a variable and that people are underestimating how far Pac can throw.
I was talking to Leon about this yesterday and this will get Pac phucked up vs Floyd. Do you remember Ortiz trying to come forward and get countered? He had his feet under him and kept his balance while still in his stance coming forward and got countered hard. He's also 164 pounds. Now imagine those same counters on a 148 pound Pac off balance with his foot off the ground. It's not a good idea. This content is protected
No. Pac also can't cope with the timing, infighting, footwork, reach, or ring intelligence (anticipation). Pac is out classed in this fight, but stands a good chance due to his durability, speed, and fighting spirit. If Pac can be lulled into a Mayweather paced fight out in space? He is toast. Can he close and fight close? Nope. He is toast. Unfortunately, after watching the Mosley fight, I am not confident Pac has the skills required to push the issue if need be. He was unable to cut Mosley off and looked wide open for a straight right. As we saw from the Ortiz fight (pre-fiasco), Mayweather can use a straight right with deadly effectiveness. If you can't cut off a Power Boxer Puncher without looking wide open for a straight right, how can you do so against one of the most skilled Pure Boxers to ever do this? No, no, and... NO!
What I noticed about Ortiz though is that his body is a lot more static when he throws. He has that back and forth motion but his offense is much more elementary than Pac's. Take a look here how Pacquiao utilizes a greater range of motion when coming in than Ortiz. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCZrOPrP-3o[/ame] Also, Ortiz is trying to lead off with the jab there but it's better to lead with the rear hand when facing an opposing stance.
I am surprised how you underestimate how shot to crap ODL was. He obviously anticipated the punch. You can see his guard adjust for it. He had so little in the tank that he didn't throw a lead hook or a jab. Then that pitiful "countering" display afterward just further illustrates how shot to crap ODLH was! He gets touched and instead of looking for the return shot he has his hands a mile away from his face TOGETHER. Then he fires a straight left that would have been beautiful a decade earlier, only to follow it up with noodle of a straight right. His arm looked like it flopped into hyper extension. OLDH was NOT himself in that fight. His face and body language say it all. Pac is not who you think he is. You will soon realize this.
I'll look at the video when I get home, but i got something for ya :hey This content is protected This content is protected
Are you kidding? Do you know how SLOW Cotto is? Pac is leaning forward there. FMJ would eat that up all night. :yep It is better to lead with there rear hand when facing an opposing stance? :huh Says who? Leading with the rear hand is slightly dangerous IF you are faster than the other guy. If you are leading with your rear hand against a FASTER natural counter puncher you are going to eat a monster lead hook/uppercut. Followed up by a return cross or hook if he sends you staggering outside. Ortiz should have been using lead hooks followed by straights.
I'll find a copy of the full fight so I can see the circumstances surrounding the first situation. But for the second, as you can see Ortiz' offense is very basic. He's coming in with your generic 1-2 which someone of Floyd's experience has seen billions of times.
No. Oscar was faded. Hell Oscar was not Oscar when he faced FMJ. A prime ODLH would have given both FMJ and Pac fits. The fact that he had no jab against either says it all. Then the cut down to 147? Icing on the cake. As soon as I saw his face I knew he was toast. He was drained.
It will take a little time to get acclimated to floyd's speed but Floyd has slowed down just a tad. PAC will definitely eat some shots...Floyd is a great counter puncher but I think Floyd will have more trouble with PAC's pressure than PAC will have with Floyd's speed.
It will make you more vulnerable to the lead hook and uppercut, but less so to the straight from the power hand, especially considering he moves to the outside. Of all those I'd say its the uppercut that he'd have to worry about but he was using that straight left as a counterpunch to the left jab thus the left is already in use. Edit: and ortiz is no speed demon either :yep
Oscar was faded, I agree, but he was also faded when he fought PBF, albeit probably not AS faded. Either way, styles make fights, and Oscar was ill-equiped defensively to deal with Pacquiao. In addition, Oscar had excellent footwork, but Pacquiao has better footwork, and this, in addition to the angles he takes, and Oscar's overall style and stance, is what contributed mostly to his defeat. Oscar in my opinion doesn't really have the offensive or defensive attributes to deal with Pac... It's not just fundamentally, although that is a significant reason, but it's how he uses those fundamentals in terms with his physical attributes. In no way though does this give us any indication of how Mayweather would match up with Pac because Mayweather's is much different stylisticaly and his physical attributes are also different. Mayweather is much better equiped offensively and defensively to deal with Pacquiao, which is part of the reason why it's such an intriguing fight.
