What is your opinion on Sergio Martinez. This guy really is taking the boxing world by storm in a mysterious way. For about 85% of his career he was totally unknown then all the sudden he is an unstoppable force. With his new found success there are a lot of questions about his future. What weights he should be fighting at, what opponents he should be fighting, whether floyd or pac should face him etc etc. I would just like everyone to key in regarding on your opinion on Sergio Martinez and any thoughts you may have on him. - I think he is a true 160 pd fighter. Slightly drained at 154 but still too big for anyone currently at 154 & really drained at 147 and would wreck ANYONE in that division - Is capable of fighting at 168 but chooses not too, because he's not ready to take the risk - would beat both floyd & pacquiao due to size - he took barker serious. His performance was based on barkers style, you absolutely CANNOT beat Sergio Martinez coming forward or from to far a distance if your offensively minded. He hypnotizes a lot of fighters with his head movement and hands down style making it easier to counter his opponent. Barker only attacked when he was at a good distance and wasn't head hunting which made it easier for him to fight sergio. - May be on steriods. Hate to say it but I do find it a little strange that he is now knocking out guys at 160 when in smaller divisions he wasn't that great. Late bloomer? Possibly but it is pretty amazing what he is doing. Anyways thats my opinion.... whats yours?
hes a good fighter. may be fighting guys who cant challenge him. probably because nobody wants to fight him at 160.
i think it was a bit of hype because it looks like Williams was on his way down when he got knocked out. Dzinziruk was really a no name. I think he didn't take Barker very seriously or he would have knocked him out sooner. Barker is a good fighter though so I can't fault sergio for his win. Like I said in previous post counterpunchers are the best fighters out there today.
Definitely on drugs, I mean, anyone who wins nowadays is on steroids. All of the losers are clean, they themselves then take steroids which helps them win. That's how it works isn't it?
also. What the **** is your deal with saying I think people are on steriods because they do amazing accomplishments. I will never accuse someone without proof. PBF making Mosley take the test is reasonable due to Mosley's past actions with steriods. You do yourself and the fighter a disservice and cheapen their accomplishments with the accusation.
A very good fighter who had a poor night against Darren Baker(Barker) and god help the next opponent.
guys like bernard u question. went from being slow and looking his age then fights pascal and he is faster and more mobile than him
I think he is EASILY the most "equipped" to deal with Gayweather and Pac roid. I have heard of stories all the way from nicaragua about his EXTENSIVE use of his package. He's got it all and I would say that he is def. the sexiest and most likely to deal with either floyd or roid. Sergio would blow either one of them out of the bed with one sploodge. The girls don't lie and he is surely equipped to handle either one of them. Me and you too!
My current fave fighter since a certain cokehead murderer hung himself in a jail My take on Martinez Strengths: 1. First off, he's Sexy Sergio 2. When he wears shades he looks like a hitman for a Colombian drug cartel (major coolness points) 3. Southpaw (real lefty not a converted one) 4. Naturally very gifted athlete 5. Has power in both hands which is rare in a southpaw 6. Good workrate and combinations 7. Great reflexes 8. Excellent foot work, angles, ring generalship 9. Great counterpuncher 10. Lots of heart 11. Capable of rallying late in a fight (few fighters can do this consistently) 12. Is very vocal against schoolyard bullying :happy Weaknesses 1. Hands low defense, non-existent high guard (he doesn't have to be AA or Clottey but he has to cover up sometimes at least) 2. Has a tendency to take rounds off 3. He is a sucker for the right hand 4. Extremely poor inside game 5. He folds under Mexican style inside pressure and relentlessness 6. Right jab often thrown very lazily and used for tapping (a good counter puncher like Floyd would make him pay for this) 7. Has balance issues and often trips and stumbles 8. He is physically more fragile than he seems 9. He can't absorb that much sustained punishment 10. He doesn't speak English (only reason he's not a superstar by now)
Are you really going to use his loss to Marg as a measuring stick? These days Sergio responds to pressure fighters just fine. Ask Paul Williams. Pavlik hits pretty hard and Sergio took the shots quite well, therefore Sergio's chin is not bad at all. The reason why he isn't a superstar boxer is because Argentina isn't high on boxing. Otherwise Sergio would be the next Oscar DLH of Argentina. Duran and Chavez Sr aren't exactly fluent in English and they did just fine in the sport of boxing. Another key factor is cash cows' unwillingness to fight Sergio. Mayweather and Pac wouldn't be where they are today if DLH had never given them a shot.
