If the Ancient Egyptians were Semites then why is it that they do not speak a Semitic language? Why is it that they do not practice a Semitic religion? Why is it that they have a matriarchal society, like other Africans, as opposed to a patriarchal society like Semites? Why is it that they are tropically adapted unlike modern "Middle Easterners"?

    No, not really.

And what are your standards of pyramid-hood? :huh

They apparently differ from most of the archaeological and historical communities (not to mention the general public), which refer to the Cholula pyramid as a pyramid.

    Feel free.

I already did make my case. The Egyptians' neighbors possessed superior mathematical skills and built a large number of impressive, USEFUL architectural projects. Similarly, civilizations more primitive than the Egyptians or their neighbors managed to build pyramids.

Given that you seem to disagree with all of these points, it's up to you to provide some justification for your disagreement.

As I said earlier, you seem to assume that any culture that DIDN'T build pyramids COULDN'T build pyramids. Yet even the Egyptians didn't build pyramids throughout their entire history. Almost every civilization on earth did not build pyramids because they're useless wastes of labor.

It's like saying that people outside of Egypt couldn't make mummies because they didn't. The absence of pyramids outside of Egypt doesn't prove very much.

If you're referring to the Egyptian influence on Hippocrates, that came very, very late in Egypt's history. By that time, the Greeks were already designing (or relatively close to designing) astrolabes, crossbows, a close approximation of the scientific method, tumbler locks, winches, etc. etc.

I'd say just about everybody can see that the Aztec and Cholula step pyramids look different from the Egyptian pyramids (except for the earliest Egyptian pyramids). Yes, the Egyptians clearly switched from step pyramids to the pyramids we all know and love today.

That does not necessarily show that step pyramids (especially the very, very large ones) are significantly less complicated to build, just that the Egyptians built them before changing their preferred pyramid design.

Who should Wlad fight to prove himself? Name an opponent. He's fought whoever he could find. IT's not his fault the division is weak. He is not top 20. Top 15 is more like it. He would've been tough for any opponent from any era. However, there is no hot tub time machine. So it's stupid to get down on Klitschko because he wasn't around in the 70s.

According to my source, the Step Pyramid represents an earlier design in Pyramid evolution. Step Pyramids are not true Pyramids like the Great Pyramid at Giza.

Seeing as the Mesoamericans never built true Pyramids, no comparisons between Cholula and Giza can be made.

Perfect of example of why posters should be forced to take an IQ pass and get above 110 before being allowed to post.

Hang on a minute, there would not be many posters left in GF if that was a rule.

Anyway, how did this become a " poor me I am Black"and a Black african history propaganda thread again?

Yeah, that says nothing about the relative difficulty of building a step pyramid versus a regular, pointy-looking pyramid. It just means that the Egyptians built step pyramids first and then regular pyramids.

What you need to post is something that talks about the ACTUAL DIFFICULTY of building one structure over the other. Which structure came first is irrelevant. (It is not that difficult to find such a source. In fact, I can already think of one way to make the argument).

Also, it makes no difference whether you call them "true" pyramids or not. I could easily post 50 sources from academic journals that refer to the Mesoamerican pyramids as "pyramids", but it would be pointless. We're not arguing about words, we're arguing about whether the Egyptian pyramids were as sophisticated as the Mesoamerican structures that I call pyramids and you, apparently, don't.

You're committing three related errors in your reasoning here:

    (1) First, you're trying to win the argument by defining your terms in a narrow way that gives you the conclusion you want. You can't show that the Great Pyramid is more sophisticated than the Cholula pyramid, so you try to redefine "pyramid" in such a way that it only includes the Egyptian pointy pyramids. You've basically tried to define the Mesoamerican pyramids out of existence without addressing the underlying issue (whether they were as sophisticated as the Egyptian pyramids).

    (2) Second, you assume that the Egyptian pyramids and the Mesoamerican pyramids can't be compared because they're not IDENTICAL. In reality, whether or not we can compare them depends on our question. Here, our question is: "Which of these two structures is more advanced?" Clearly, the Great Pyramid and the Cholula pyramid can be compared in this way.

    (3) Finally, you continue to assume that every civilization that didn't build something exactly like the Egyptian pyramids couldn't do so. But wait! Almost every civilization in history didn't build pyramids. In fact, according to your definition of "pyramid", only ONE civilization built pyramids in the entire history of humanity. According to your reasoning, this means that the Egyptians were the only people who could build pyramids, ever. Which is ridiculous.

It makes a lot more sense to look at the structures that other cultures did build (regardless of whether you call them "pyramids", "step pyramids", or "giant malformed stone waffles"), and ask whether those structures showed the same level of sophistication that the pyramids display. Alternatively, you can look at other cultures' engineering knowledge and ask whether it's as advanced as the Egyptians' knowledge.

    Wrong.

Your claim is that the Mesoamericans were at a similar stage of development as the Egyptians and you offer Cholula as evidence. Step Pyramids, as the evidence I cited clearly says, are not True Pyramids, like those at Giza. Therefore no comparisons can be made between the two. Cholula is a Step Pyramid and *not* a True Pyramid.

Like I said, there are no comparisons to be made between Cholula and Giza.

I'm sorry but I didn't invent the term "True Pyramid". That term is used by my source. If you wish to refute my source's use of the term "True Pyramid", feel free...

The Mesoamerican Pyramids are Step Pyramids. The Pyramids at Giza are True Pyramids. Therefore, no comparisons can be made between them.
