Yes, because Garcia is turning him into a master boxer:roll:...Marg is gonna train and fight the way he always fight...he will kill himself in a highly elevated mexican mountain and pressure with his size come fightnight. Miguel trained himself for their 1st fight...he had been training by himself since before the Quintana fight. This content is protected
i think the reason for this is that he got steward to improve his defensive ability and boxing and he never really did either to a great degree. against foreman he showed signs of using the jab but defensivly he never really had anything to do. but in the mayorga fight he was getting hit with flush right hands all night, now if that was prime mayorga i think he could have got rid of cotto that night with the ease that he was getting to cotto.
actually garcia has made a few improvements to margo but we couldn't see it because.... well because he fought pacquiao. margo OUTBOXED yes OUTBOXED the last guy he fought before pacquiao.
Damn. This makes sense. As a Cotto fan, I hope you are wrong. It's not like there's a bigger money fight for Steward in the next few months.
"Diaz has been coordinating the training and preparation for the Cuban national team since 1989 and led the team to more than 20 Olympic gold medals." Well, clearly the guy has boxing credentials. Fundamentals and tactics are what Cotto needs reinforced for the Margarito match. I'm glad the parting with Steward wasn't sour.
Cotto is a fighter that had so much potential to be great, had he had the right trainer from the start. He is still one of my favorites, but his corner has been a mess for such a long time. One can only wonder what he could have accomplished from the start with a strong corner.
Did you bother to read? ES has scheduling conflicts. It wasn't Cotto's idea. He actually seems quite pleased with his choice as well. So his mindset seems a bit excited and anxious.
but it was used a lot more in the fight and it wasn't just used to get close to the opponent and let the combos fly but to actually win the rounds and score points. in cotto's seek and destroy days the jab was just there to close the space and allow him to throw the deadly left hook.
I saw him keep his temperment, control a wild fighter with his jab, a frequent use of the right hand and better power from the right. A prime Mayorga is just one with a better chin. Nothing about THAT Mayorga was any different than the one we always see. We would've simply seen a UD for Cotto. If anything, I'd argue that Mayorga from the Cotto fight was far better conditioned than the one from the Vargas and Shane fights.
I actually think the jab was used to setup Foreman along the ropes. He also didn't squat like we're used to seeing him do.
