Unless it's a Juan at the front I don't give a **** about a manuel marquez. Derry should just focus on a rematch for the euro and go for a legit strap. This IBO bollocks will not be taken seriously ala his wbu reign.
There's nothing wrong with him going for the IBO title as long as he doesn't start calling himself a world champion. He can still aim for the Euro strap as well, he's picked up a few belts on his comeback and can hopefully make some decent money but he's going to fall well short of world level.
I see what derry is doing but I really would love him to win a mainstream title British or Euro because he deserves it and is good enough to pick up one or both and i think it would be bad for him to retire having only won WBU and IBO titles. If he does win this IBO shot they will milk it by him making defences in Liverpool until he loses. He will make a bit of money from it but will never move into proper contention or rove himself. Dont want his career to be a what if of versus domestic opposition.
Why fight for the IBO when it is considered as a bull**** title when he can get another nailed on fight for the euro strap which if won would put him straight in the rankings for wbc and wba which are considered the best belts. Heck he could even be a 'interim' champ and get away with being classed as a champ by sky ala Katsidis is a 2 x champ :-( (love the guy but it just aint the truth). Derry is a lovely fella with a lot of class. He needs to make sure he does the best he can with the time he has left in boxing. that is fighting for the euro strap imho against a smaller Ree's who can be kept at distance behind the jab and gasses after 6 rounds.
Won't Crolla be vacating the British to fight fight Morales and isn't Rees moving down? The Title picture in Britain and Europe could be blown wide open and Derry would surly be in line for a shot at one of them. He shouldn't be pissing about with bull**** titles.
That Manuel Marquez thing is surely a mistake. There's no evidence that a fighter of that name exists It would be funny if it's wrong and Derry has been telling people what a great fighter Manuel Marquez is.
i can see why hes going for it, even if i dont particularly like it. its not at the wbu level of shitness, its often held alongside another belt, or by a top contender. bbboc wil probably sanction it if its a world ranked opponent, they sanctioned matthew hatton v lovemore ndou not THAT long ago. a missed oppurtunity to pick up some mainstream belts though. Well on Ringside Rob Smith mentioned no more baubles WBF WBU etc only the big four and the IBO so i assume the BBBC will still allow this not that I necassarily agree with this.
If there going to allow Dodson/Stubbs for the IBO international light heavyweight i cant see why they would have a problem with this fight.
