Hagler. It all came together for Leonard on the night that they fought. Considering he had n't fought for three years,he was superb. He was also helped by Hagler's cautious approach in the early rounds,and Marvin could n't catch up. Hagler would n't make that mistake again.

With normal ring , normal gloves and d will 2 revenge Leonard's pussyness Hagla woulda stopped him .
And if it would have been 4 15 , then it's a certainty . Despite Hagler would have been old by then , and is probably 4 years older than Leonard , not 2 years which explains why he got shot so quickly and retired at a seemingly young age , he was probably 35 and not 33 when he retired .
I really don't know why he cheated against himself when he listed himself as 2 years younger than he really was , same 4 Norton and maybe McCallum 2 . Don't know where d rumors about them r from which also reminds me of Cream & Wright .

 

Leonard may have been better after shaking off the ring rust. I think it goes down the same, Leonard is always winning the early rounds and winning enough of the late ones to make it a 7-5 victory

 

Assuming that Hagler wasn't completely shot, then Hagler would be far more aggressive right from the start & overwhelms Leonard. One thing I wouldn't want to do is fight Hagler when he's pissed off, & he'd be really pissed at Leonard!

 

I recall one of the main mags previewing this around early 88 and they went for a Leonard UD if I recall correctly. I'd definitely agree with this, I thought Hagler looked stale in their fight and couldn't get his punches off with the fluency he had previously, his timing was that split-second out and Leonard still had a couple of half-decent fights left in him. So I think a rematch of Boxing history's most overrated controversial decision would have ended in a carbon copy of Fight One.

 

Leonard should have stayed at 160 rather than chase the meaningless money fights at 168.

put him in against hearns at 160, then the young guard.

he probably cracks people's top 10 lists then.

Hagler was inspired when angered...and he would have been plenty angry vs Leonard. I think he would have started the fight southpaw and stayed that way throughout...I'm not sure that he would have stopped Leonard, but he would have won, I believe.

There's all this talk about tactics, gloves, Hagler's state of mind etc, etc, but the one important think is that his timing and reflexes was that bit off and that wasn't going to get any better. Even when he had a dead tired Leonard right where he wanted him he couldn't do serious damage.

Leonard endurance also improved in his subsequent fights. He had probably lost a bit of the speed from the Hagler fight when fighting LaLonde and, especially, Hearns, but his stamina was clearly better. He was trainling when making a surge and KO'ing the much bigger Donny and came back several times against Hearns, having him badly hurt in the last round, whereas he was spent after four rounds against Hagler.

I feel pretty certain that both Kalambay and McCallum would beat Leonard at 160 at that time. Especially Kalambay. Probably Graham too. Nunn... harder to say. Leonard and Hearns are both overrated at 160. Hearns very much so.

Leonard being beat by those guys would not improve his standing.
