Martinez is 36,what does he have to do to punch his ticket to the hall of fame?

not his fault certain guys won't fight him but realistically if he moves up to heavy and knocks out vitali and Wlad it certainly won't adversely affect his chances.

what he needs to be a HOFer is to fight some famous opponents

 

beat Sturm the longest holder at 160

go up and grab a belt at 168

go back down and beat Alvarez for a belt, beating K9 or Dizzy for their belts wouldnt get him in the HOF

maybe Cotto for a belt at 154

if he can lure a p4p top 1 or 2 to him and beat one or both of them

 

It's very, very unlikely he can/will. He simply didn't turn out early enough. He'd need too much. Things he hasn't even shown the desire to attempt.

 

He needs to drop the double standards in my view, if he's bitching about a 147lb fighter who has come up from 130lb not wanting to fight him at 154 - then he can't ***** about fighting at 168 or even 175.

The Hall isn't out of the question for Martinez. He should look to beat all of his Middleweight rivals and to secure a victory over either Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, who have both campaigned above 147lbs successfully in the past.

 

To become a HoF.

Unify 160 by fighting (Chavez Jr., Pirog, Gaele, or the other titlists) 3 out of four is enough for me.

THEN

He has to go beat 3 or 4 of the top guys at 168 (Dirrell, Ward, Froch, Keesler, or Bute).

That is the only way he can be a HoFer in my eyes.

or Hagler got Hearns and Duran

 

The way he's going about it, he only wants the fight for money - risk/reward indication going on basically. If he was interesting in fighting Floyd or Pacquaio, he would recapture a belt at 154 and stay there, potentially even fight a big welter at 154 like Victor Ortiz.

He's not doing it because he believes he can beat Floyd or Pac, he's doing it because they represent 3-5 million dollar paydays for a fighter who's never earnt over 500k.

 

B-Hop wasn't a HoFer for beating Oscar and Tito, it was he defenses and dominance in his division and the **** he did in beating Tarver that established his place.

Hagler is the same, his dominance in his division established his HoF/ATG credentials, not beating Hearns and Duran, even though Hearns was a good one seeing that he eventually became a LHW and Cruiserweight champ.

As far as I'm concerned Martinez has a lot to do in a short time if he wants to be a HoFer, instead of some flash in the pan.

 

Its more likely that he will lose one of his next 2 fights againt a B fighter. Martinez is a very good fighter, but hes obviously flawed and relies on his athleticism. Unfortunately for him, he wont likely fight well when his reflexes and speed start to go. Theres really nobody at his weight thats good enough to boost his career to HOF status. Going up to 168 is his best bet, but its risky and I dont think he can beat Ward, Froch, or Bute. the Hopkins fight at 170 would have been a great option for him, its too bad hes not interested.
