How did Pacquaio go from unknown to absolutely known? Beating Oscar De La Hoya. It took him from a $2.5 million against Morales fighter to a $25 million against anyone fighter. Therefore... if I'm fighting Mayweather and feel I have a chance, I'll do anything to get in the ring with him, including what Ortiz did, take pretty much 10% of the cut to get in the ring. Because had Ortiz beat Mayweather Jr, what do you think he earns in his next fight?
It's why I find guys like Margarito, Cotto, Pacquaio and Martinez a little dishonest. If they really want to fight for legacy, they need to take the low cut the same way Marquez, Ortiz, Mosley and co have. Floyd is at least honest about the fact that money is his only decision maker when he looks at the next fight.
I am sure in principle you are correct. But by commonsense and logic, a Mexican beer company would pay halmost half what Pepsi or coca-cola would pay for one single event? Think about it!!! I don't care if you are talikng of demographics because it simply does not add up!!! I saw the financial report of FEMSA which is the parent company of the Teecate brand of beer, and it is not exactly in a position to offer that much money for a single event. If you are so sure of that amount the tecate beer is paying, backed by real figures and not hollow conjecture, then I admit I am wrong. Regardless, the taxman eats a chunk from it too.
Floyd is actually a pretty smart businessman, it seems. He gets a percentage of everything sold at the event (t-shirts, concessions, the gate itself, etc.) in addition to the PPV upside. As others have mentioned, there's the endorsements, theater ticket sales, and closed circuit to factor in, as well. His guarantee of the purse is also substantial, avg about $20 mil, since his return from retirement. He has business savvy people around and he is, apparently, listening to them. Also, he understands his own worth. Very impressive.

If I'm not mistaken Lampley said that the last Saul Alvarez fight got 75% of the television viewing audience in Mexico, to put that in perspective that is higher than the percentage of the American television audience that watches the Super Bowl. So if you take the Mexican fascination with Alvarez, Eric Morales, and Victor Ortiz, along with Floyd's own hype in the US, why wouldn't a Mexican company pay big dollars to be the sole advertiser.
