I think a better rebuttal to Pac fans is "WHY IS PACQUIAO ONLY DOING 1.3 MILLION AGAINST A GUY KNOWN TO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE, WHILE FLOYD IS DOING 1.3 MILLION AGAINST A GUY WHO HAS NEVER BEEN ON A SINGLE HBO PPV AND HAS ONLY BEEN ON HBO BAD OR CB 4 TIMES:huh

what does you having to be a Floyd fan have to do with it. No they never had a official report Bob Arum just made up a number.

This is why he fights exclusively with Golden Boy, they are willing to pay their fighters chump change so Floyd can get 90-10, 95-5 purse splits. They can pretty much promote any Floyd fight now to casuals with the hype 24/7 can generate, with FLoyd as a WWE type heel. Floyd also has a great number of fans in the US who will buy any fight of his, particularly after his long breaks creating this need to see him back in action.

Smart ploy taking those breaks and vacations. As was attributing his name to Pacquiao when he announced his comeback with expectations they will eventually fight, which undoubtedly created more interest in Mayweather's fights since, whoever he fights.

 

going by standard fee, manager (Haymon) takes 30%, trainer takes 10%, GBP takes 20%(?) and with Floyd's net, IRS takes 50%.

Pacquiao has about the same chance. Unless Floyd carries him a few rounds the fight won't be much harder than the Ortiz fight. Martinez at 160 is the dangerous fight.

 

Give me a break. If anything Pac has been living off Floyd's name. Arum has had no intention of making the fight anytime soon and its all they talk about. Do you seriously think Pac would be selling the ppv numbers he has been without Floyd?

Anyone who actually thinks about these things knows that Floyd is very adept at self promotion, which in itself is necessary to keep the casual fans on the hook whenever he produces his snoozefest clinics in the ring.

Pacquiao had the two biggest PPVs when Mayweather was retired, over 1mill with DLH, over 800K with Hatton. People were calling for him to fight Cotto, and that would've done as well without Mayweather. Mayweather himself did over 850K with Hatton before retiring, one of the most popular fighters in the sport and his main rival. Since using Pacquiao-Hatton to announce his comeback, Mayweather's PPVs have sold a lot more, against much less popular opponents.

In any case, fact is Mayweather was the one who used the Pac-Hatton fight weekend to announce his comeback, at the same venue, only hours before the fight, and against Pacquiao's main rival. Mentioned Pacquiao in his comeback statement. Granted the association with Pac would've come about naturally, Mayweather made instant with that action, and the main question after that fight was whether Pac would fight Mayweather as a result of Mayweather hijacking the event.

 

And what? 10% against Floyd Mayweather Jr is still a career pay day for most of these guys. What more do they want? They haven't established themselves at that level, why should they get credibility off of his back?

It's why the Pac fight won't get made, the credibility is equal* on both sides, meaning neither side really wants to take the negative cut, the only difference is Floyd is upfront about that.


*Don't ****ing argue it, these guys generate 1 million buys every time they fight. They're both about as credible as each other in terms of payment stakes.

 

All those guys got career high paydays

 

I know that, but it's relatively little compared to what a Pacquiao or a Cotto would demand against him. It's good business for Floyd continuing to fight Golden Boy fighters, who are generally underpaid and who Golden Boy are extremely good at hyping with their influence with HBO and the alphabet bodies.
