The question is resume not who is the better WW. Margarito had around 22 fights at WW dating back to 1996. It should be expected for him to have a better WW resume. Mayweather currently has the better JMW resume though even though he only fought there once lol.
I don't like the idea that one can look at two boxers resumes, see one is a champion, the other a contender, and then say the contender has a better resume because he beat more contenders. It's not as if Margarito didn't have opportunities. Margarito fought for the WW lineal title against Shane Mosley and lost.
Damn!!! That's a very solid resume on Margarito. I totally forgot about this. Cotto and Cintron are both primes and the 0 had it with them - UNDEFEATED PRIMES Clottey - supposedly undefeated. That Baldo DQ was stupid to begin for. And let's not forget about his win against Sergio Martinez. He maybe unripe back then but it's still a name, specially now. Margarito owned them! BIGTIME :good
No, Shane wasn't lineal. First mistake. Second, with the number of belts available today, you HAVE to look at who they fought. By your rationale, Carlos Baldomir and Judah BOTH have a better resume then Margarito as well, based on winning a lineal belt. Highly flawed.
I think he would run through Floyds punches as he did with Cotto. You either need to be a volume puncher like Williams or a really heavy puncher like Mosley or Pacquiao. Floyds 40 punch output wouldnt work. I think Floyd would find a way to win , he always does , but would have been in a fight , which is why he went away for a while.
After Margo beat Cotto and unified two belts he was a man at WW until Mosley bat him so he ain't contender he is a former unified champion. To your information Floyd was retired at that time waiting for Cotto, Margo and Mosley to settle things down internally between them so he could beat 40yr old Mosley after his 1.5 year inactivity ... this disn't make Margo and Cotto automatically contenders.
I would never count out Floyd, but that's how I see it. What's crazy is, Floyd turned down a career high payday to duck Margarito. And now doing the same thing w/ Pac. Floyd must be the only guy in boxing to turn down two of his biggest paydays (at the time) on supposedly EASY fights he'll win vs. guys tailor made. atsch
Mayweather has way more speed and quickness then Cotto. Margarito wouldn't be able to hit him as much or catch him as much. Margarito is all about volume punching, if he is missing and hitting air then his volume punching goes out the window and he doesn't have a plan b.
