There is a poster in the General,that goes by the name of PugilisticPower, that wrote today,"Quite frankly I think if you put Ezzard Charles in the ring with Joe Calzaghe,he would be butchered." He also wrote that he rated JC higher than Rocky Marciano because Calzaghe was a champion longer.PP claims he doesn't rate on nostalgia.Fine.Don't get me wrong,I think Calzaghe was a terrific fighter,but my head almost exploded as I read that one.Calzaghe butchers EZZARD CHARLES,ffs???????I think I've lost my mind.
Well Charles **** slaps the **** out of Calzaghe in terms of greatness but in a h2h fight I think it would be a great fight. Good thread in terms of the fight, I'll get back to you.
I just wanna say though that it's not like just because we post in the classic we're automatically better posters than those in the general forum, it's not like we can override PugilisticPower's opinion and prove that he's wrong, we can give our own opinions though and this is a great thread
Charles was taller , naturally a bit heavier , had a slightly better chin and hit harder . I suppose his stamina was also slightly better . I guess Charles would have beaten him quite bad , maybe stopped him , maybe not , probably yes if they fought a sufficient # of times , but I think it's safe 2 say that Charles never gets butchered / stopped by Calzaghe .
calzaghe clearly wins this. he wouldn't get in the ring until ezzard was well into the losing streak at the end of his career. we all know how joe did things. prime vs prime, the fight doesn't happen so it's not worth talking about. joe would fight some euro bum in wales instead.
quite realistic except that it might have been a bit hard 4 Charles 2 make 175 @ d tail end of his career , especially considering d methods of weightmaking that were available in his time . so d fight smply doesn't happen . but r u sure that even @ d very end of his career at , say , a 180 lbs catchweight (I doubt if calzaghe even agrees to d full 175) , Charles wouldn't have been a bit 2 much 4 Calzaghe , or maybe even just competitive ? did he show signs of ALS back then ?

That's why it isn't worth wasting one's time (or energy) posting there, imo. BTW, Charles by easy tko. Joe is tough but he has nothing to show Charles that he hasn't already seen x1000.
Charles would butcher...haha, just kidding...no, he'd soundly defeat..and even stop Calzaghe in both fighter's prime...and I'm a big fan of JC's..but a huge fan of Charles.
