Now I know it was shocking and all talked about, but I don't recall people hating on Tyson to the point it pissed them off like it was almost personal the way they look at Floyd.. Anyone recall people being angry or is it with the advent of the internet things gets way exaggerated?

There was even more outrage than Ortiz fight. Hell look at how the general public views tyson even to this day. You bring his name up an you dont hear about his fighting abillity but you hear the same lame ear jokes.

The Floyd fight is relatively meaningless; boxing is completely peripheral now, so there's only so many people to care.

Tyson transcended boxing, so the spotlight was so much bigger in that fight. Yes, the outrage was there. Big time.

No single act in years has hurt boxing more. People argue the Lewis-Holyfield draw, but I disagree. There was negative **** on news outlets, everywhere for weeks. Ruined the reputation of a legend, badly, badly hurt peoples opinions of professional boxers as dignitaries of sportsmanship.

    Hell, yeah.
I know I took it personal.

It was disgraceful on so many levels.
I know some other boxing fans who took years to forgive Tyson.

I found Tyson's post-fight nonsense, and the infamous interview with him and his "manager" John Horne, the most sickening part.
It exposed Tyson as a weak-minded, dishonest, immature individual.
The years of excuse-making from Tyson and his blind nuthuggers didn't help.

For a few years there Tyson was a complete *****. No ifs, no buts.

Thing is, I've otherwise rather enjoyed his personality ever since he first came along. And he seems better now that ever. But he definitely was a complete dick for a while, and he'd probably be the first to admit it.

Mike has always been a good guy at heart. Outside of boxing he never really had a thing. Basically since 12 he was just taught how to fight, I think mike is better off now even if hes broke than when he was with millions.

I felt very surprised at the time, excited, intruiged, energised at the very moment and moments after it happened. I remember the press and the general public almost having a linch mob mentality towards Tyson. It was front page for weeks, jokes where made on chat shows Letterman and the like, Clinton made a comment, Tyson right there became enemy number 1.

I agree that he became a ***** but with extreme provocation and he just became increasingly ridiculed to the point where he pretty much had a breakdown and was crazy.

    Amen.

And it happened at a time when boxing needed something to lift it up, not tear it down. Horrible timing. It would be hard to place a dollar amount on how much promoters and network executives and casinos, etc re-allocated their money and interest in the sport after that.
