I can't believe there is only 1 fight of Angelo Santana in YT. He looks pretty good but then again he was fighting a 39 year old tomato can.

I hope he gets to fight sometime in ESPN.

Promoter Ahmet Oner (ARENA) just signed a long-term promotional contract with red hot light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera. The 29 year old Cuban who lives and trains in Miami, Florida, is one of the fastest rising stars in boxing today. Barrera literally blew away all of his opponents since turning pro in August 2009. With his most recent KO-win over Frank Paines in June, Barrera collected two regional titles and secured himself a top 15 spot in the WBC and WBA ratings after only eight pro-fights. It was no other than Cuban superstar Yuriorkis Gamboa

    Major Step Up For Abril

Former lightweight champion Miguel “Aguacerito” Acosta (29-4-2, 23 KOs) will now face Richard Abril (16-2-1, 8 KOs) for the WBA interim lightweight belt on October 22 at the WBA “KO Drugs” Festival in Panama. Initially it was originally planned that former WBA titleholder Paulus Moses would face Abril for the title, but Moses didn’t accept the fight. Acosta won in a tuneup fight last Saturday in Colombia in his first bout since losing the WBA regular belt to Brandon Rios in February.

Not very impressive results in World Championships for amateurs in Baku:
    Only three cubans in semifinals
    123 pound Lazaro Estrado Alvarez
    132 pound Yosniel Toledo Lopez
180 Julio De La Cruz Peraza

Big step up for Santana. Big step up for Abril. Abril will probably lose this one.

Wich mean Cuba won't get one Gold , I'll be surprised if they win their semifinal bouts . This have been one of the most corrupted tournament in history and that c***k mother****er who's in charge ( and destroying ) of AIBA should be in prision . Peace .

First they got rid of Cuba's best chances for gold ( Iglesias , Banteur and Correa ) , then they saw Larduet ( who hits like a mule ) and Savon and they shitted their pants again ( Larduet " loses " a fishy close bout and Savon's fight gets prematurily stopped by the ref ) result : Cuba has her 3 worst boxers in the semis , it would be a miracle if they go on to win their respective bouts . Oh man , oh man , I can't wait to see what dirty tricks they are planning for London , the new scoring system is a JOKE , it looks like it was put in place so they could manipulate the results more easyly and rob the fighters without controversy.... Thankfully the BBC and the British media will be vigilant and I hope they will watch them ( AIBA judges ) closely , they're cagey with all the talks about corruption recently ( btw the British team have done excellent in this tournament , maybe it's because they were the ones that uncover the bribing scandal so they were left alone ? ) lol . They ripped the Russians too. ! ! The worst f**king tournament in living memory ! ( IMO ) . Peace .

Does anyone know if Richard Abril was from the Cuban amateur boxing system or was he raised in the US? I saw him and he doesn't look like he was taught in Cuba.

I really don't know why Cuba has fallen so much at the amateurs. I know that there's always a lot of robberies against the Cubans but still we should always be the Country with the most boxers getting Gold, Silver like it has always been for the past 40 years.

It seems to me that because of the horrible economic situation in Cuba that not many people want to get in sports or maybe the goverment is not supporting their sports programs like before. Either way, they should all defect and come over here!!! ;)
