Prime for Prime, do you think the alleged greatest 168 pounder of all-time could beat the greatest 160 pounder of my lifetime? Lately there have been many pro-Calzaghe threads and a couple disparaging Hagler. So, let's see how you think this fight would turn out. As for me: Hagler comes forward on his toes, always on perfect balance, with plenty of head movement. Calzaghe tries to keep it on the outside, but Hagler is able to slip his punches and effectively cut down the ring. Hagler bangs the body and arms and throws an occassional hook upstiairs; Calzaghe tries to clinch on the inside and wait for the ref to break them back to his preferred distance. Once Hagler realizes that Calzaghe can not hurt him he ratchets up the pressure and takes him out. Hagler KO inside of four rounds. The man cut off the ring better than any fighter I have seen, had great balance and true power in each hand. Plus, he was determined and fought with great passion. What do you think? If you have Hagler winning, doesn't that really diminish Calzaghe's ATG support? After all, Ali would be favored over every Light Heavy who ever fought.
Just to let you know that when Calzaghe fought on the ring, he wasn't exactly 168 lbs. He came in around 10 lbs heavier on the average of 178 lbs. Hagler fought 160 right on the money at fight night. And Calzaghe, while people have always called him a slapper, has always stopped people in their tracks as they chase him with mere slaps. Even if you have a hard chin, multiple slaps will take a toll on you because your brain keeps shaking as a result. And as the match drags on, it makes it harder for them to think. This isn't as easy as people would like to think for both men.
Oh, and TS is making Calzaghe sound like he can only box outside. The guy is a crafty sumbitch that can fight inside and outside with many styles. He's also a verified cheater when he can ala Hopkins, he has very fast handspeed, his volume style makes it hard to score against him, and by virtue of pure size, he would be stronger than Hagler is if they get into clinches or inside fighting.
Here's a little footage of the two to help those in doubt: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZHIo5ylQA8[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ge2oCEH6NI[/ame]
Because the guy from the lower division is also an ATG with a higher ATG ranking. And it's not like that lower division is 135 lbs. But again, Calzaghe only becomes a true underdog if you don't analyze the matchup properly and only think of their relative fame. In matchup analysis, Calzaghe has a good chance of taking this fight just as Marvelous did.
anyone who thinks this is an easy night for hagler is wrong. would be an interesting fight, 2 fighters who can adapt in the ring, who can fight going forwards and backwards, and who can fight in adversity. at a level weight i would favour hagler on points but joe is great at taking fighters out of there comfort zone and is great at working out his opponents during fights. for all that people call calzaghe a slapper, then tell me why he has never held during his whole career and joe was always prepared to go toe to toe with his opponents. calzaghe's opponents are always the ones who want to hold on, so its likely that calzghe hit harder than people think. i think hagler might win this one on points with the tidier work but calzaghe would have a better chance than most.
some people on here are retarted. Calzaghe UD 116-112, Hagler was close to a great lightweight and lost to a great WW
