But who wins moorer or witherspoon? moorer or mccall, moorer or lewis, moorer or tyson? moorer fought a few foreman opponents with comparable results so george knew he was in with a chance. Old george also knew he fought a better holyfeild than moorer did too -and was prety glad he did not have to win an eliminator to get his shot. Now think of the guys witherspoon, mccall, tyson and lewis were knocking out and you should get the picture..
I've just watched Bruno v Witherspoon, Lewis v Bruno and Bruno v McCall again. Those are probably Bruno's best, most diciplined, most spirited, performances. No way do I see Bruno being able to survive Foreman by hitting and moving his way out of trouble. He's too cumbersome, not relaxed enough, and he's too much of a "strong man" himself. Way too much of a frontrunner. He might box well for 5 or 6 rounds and give Foreman a few bruises, but he'd fold like a cheap suit as soon as Foreman tags him and closes on him.
-Outside of Tyson and Lewis, all those matches are toss ups depending on the specific situation as McCall, Moorer, and Spoon were largely inconsistent performers. I will say I don't think fairly highly of the Bonecrusher/Spoon KO you tried to big up. At any rate, Spoon and Bonecrusher never did anything with their careers that would suggest they are a level above Moorer. If anything Spoon and Moorer are on equal footing ,with Bonecrusher a notch down. -If we are talking theoretical situations, ask yourself if Bruno would survive getting jumped by the power punching Cooper in the first round..has he ever shown he can recover from being hurt and fight his way out of a hairy situation like Moorer has? Would Bruno survive the early trouble Moorer got in against sick Holyfield? I have my doubts.
Witherspoon didn't even bother to train for Bruno. Which was good because it made for a competitive fight. Ironically, fat undertrained Witherspoon outlasted the well-conditioned Bruno.
He got off the floor in the first round against tyson then hurt him at the end of the round. I heard cooper lasted about an hour in camp with bruno, he got beat up and quit on the first day.
-After being penalized for excessive holding. -Cooper was a Cruiser than and didn't take the camp seriously, drinking and partying with drugs. Again, the whole story.
I never heard about the drugs part. cooper was sometimes hot but mostly not. The full story was joe frazier told the british press that bruno was nothing and that he had a kid called burt cooper (18 at the time) who would beat bruno right now, he even said he himself could beat bruno with 2 weeks training, this was after watching Bruno stink against phill brown if I recall, anyway years later bruno remebered all this when he used cooper as a sparring partner and was disapointed with cooper, he had to send him home. It was well documented.
Joe Frazier was disappointed and walked out on Bert Cooper years before that, I think. I remember seeing Bert Cooper beat the crap out of highly-touted Willie DeWit in 1987, and he really looked liked he'd be a force to reckon with. But he never lived up to his potential. He should have been a contender but he ended up a journeyman opponent before he was even old. He had a couple of decent moments (obviously v. Holyfield most notably) but he rarely showed that desire and intensity. A waste of potential. Cocaine had a lot to do with it.
I heard a whisper that Cooper is back in training for a comeback. Supposedly lost 50lb. Cant vouch for the authenticity
