I flicked over to ESPN at 10pm to watch Mayweather v Gatti, couldn't bring myself to flick back and watch that Aus rubbish what a joke!
it is close to the best. haumono, alex and meehan aside. there r simply no aussie heavy boxers. too many other appealing sports for youngsters to bother with boxing.
Getting off thread for a bit. Alan Moore mightn't be everyone's favourie referee. But he redeemed himself earlier in the night as a judge for the Nadine Brown V Sarah O'Connell match up. Moore got it just about right at 59-55 while the other two snoozers gave it a 57-57 draw. atsch Brown must have woken up this morning wondering "what the hell happened there" Best fight of the night with non stop action from 2 very fit girls.
I thought o'Connell actually just won. How the hell could you think she only won the one round? Wth? They both seemed happy with result! Bring on third fight!
I don't know why you say that. Blind Freddy knew that Mick would fight with his head on Cols chest because that gave him a better chance of winning ( Cols height & reach). Naturally I agree though, it was a slow & cumbersome fight but there was plenty of punishment dish out by 2 big men. However, the rest of the card was good. Linc Fitzy & Dennis Arthur was flat out affair. Issy & Red dog was good. The girls was a barn burner. & Alex had busted ribs & went straight to hospital. I much prefer flat out 6 rounders over some of the hyped up stuff elsewhere. I also enjoyed the pommy prize fighter as well. Journeymen & up & comers. Just fighters who give a 100%. I think that's all we can ask. Roll on 28th at Mansfield :happy
Michael won with his boring heavy leaning style, would prefer to watch him have a punch on in pub/club from VIP seating
Kirby does his best with his limitations, I take my hat off to the man, he's not afraid to fight any one, and has done something that all of us here haven't, won the Australian heavy weight boxing title.
That fight was set up with the intention of making col become a 4 time aus champ, was there, and everything was going against mik,he showed the heart he posses to win that fight, what was he supposed to do?Stand back and let Colin jab his ears off,mik got stuck in and had a go.He was that emotional at the end,cos until his name was read out as the winner he wouldn't believe it.Now he has fought everyone in the division, never said no to a challenge, not like some fighters that remain a myth and give empty promises.Years from now you'll all say what a tuff ******* he was,and how willing he was to fight anyone, good on the bloke I say,Not many like him left, that don't care about titles or records, just about fighting the best while he can!!
In the lead up to the fight,he had alot of personal troubles and was told by david birchill to pull out of the fight, but he dug his heels in and said fuk it,lets have a go.
