How do you think jack johnson would have adjusted his game for the modern era?

To answer your first question, his fight style perfectly suits modern scoring. When he turned it up his opponents couldn't handle his attack (effective aggression) he dictated the pace in pretty much every fight he had (ring generalship) he rarely took a clean punch (defence) and he is one of the cleanest punchers in history.

I think the chavez-whittaker comparison I made is valid. If that is supposedly his worst performance it speaks volumes about how dominant he really was.

I would hope under shorter fights he had a higher workrate but it's difficult to determine.

Why would Johnson have to adjust his style to adapt to the " modern game? Is there a rule you have to fight a ceryain style? Two men in a square ring, stripped to the waist with only gloves on. Whats changed? The M of Q rules have been in place since 1892. Johnson wouildn't have to adapt at all but these imposters today would have to get used to being hit and not being able to lay a glove on Papa Jack. Johnson was either the 1st or 2nd best heavy EVER! Adapt to the modern era? Who the hell would want to do anything like these novices today? Jack would play with Tyson like he was a new toy!

Vitali might have a stylistic weakness to elusive counter punches so I think i'd favour johnson over vitali.

But against wlad I can't see johnson having any chance at all.

Johnson is so overrated its insane. Beating on blown up middleweights an ancient Jeffries. Don't see why some people think Dempsey wouldn't beat Johnson. Tunney had way better technical skills than Johnson, though Dempsey lost both (the second fight he should have won) Dempsey streteches Jack.

Johnson held back a lot on opponents. he could basically end a fight any time he wanted but wound up carrying all the white men just to put on a better show

Basically Johnson could be champ in any era he wanted

I'm not sure he had the power to end it when he wanted to.

I'm not sure he'd ever be champ in the 40's, unless he could fight bivins for the vacant belt whilst louis was at war.

Huh? Vitali never lost more than two rounds in any fight, and was seldom countered. Johnson would be lucky to win a round.

I think both K-Bros Ko Johnson, but Johnson's chances would be best vs. Wlad.

As much as it makes me want to vomit, I have to agree with Mendoza here. You have to draw the line on the evolution of boxing somewhere...I think Vitali over Johnson is about the right spot. He has enormous reach and a granite chin and is total poison to smaller fighters.

The ironic thing is that Johnson is not a bad comparison for Vitali.
