Exceeding Penn? Well in the real world that isn't run rampant with Penn fanboys, he actually pretty close. In the fantasy land of myths and overratedness," A longshot, he'll never be as great as Penn!".
Agreed BJ is a great fighter but people seem to think hes untouchable and cant do any wrong. Im hearing things in this thread like Frank beat an old Sherk although it was exactly a year after BJ beat him in one of his biggest wins. Or Frankie didnt deserve the 1st win over Penn, close yeah but he outworked him. Come on people Frankie done beat him twice once dominated him, defended his title twice just 2 more to go till Penn's 4, beat the likes of Sherk, Hermes Franca, Jim Miller, Tyson Griffin and Spencer Fisher. Give the kid his props.
Hes one big win away. BJ still edges it because of the way he performs when hes on. And also like it or not his success in higher weights indirectly affects his LW status. Edgar though is my favorite fighter right now just ahead of Bones.
In all fairness, BJ at his best was tooling the likes of Gomi and Sherk, the best lw's in the world. Edgar either outpoints his opponents (Penn) or almost gets knocked out before he gets down to business (Maynard). Penn is still ahead on quality and dominance.
BJ went up and fought M-A-C-H-I-D-A! Think about that for a second.... Tapped a PRIME Matt Hughes. Now think about that...
I'm not sure how Edgar is even close... he got knocked down by Maynard about 15 times in the last two fights! It's just a shame Maynard couldn't finish his dinner even if his mum cut it up for him :verysad Lynchburg
He's got some work ahead of him to match Penn. But still, even if he clears out the division and stays champion for the next 5 years he still won't match Penn, because BJs achievements at the higher weights will always be a factor in peoples opinions of him.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Lynchburg
Ok, let's compare Since 2006 BJ Penn Pulver Stevenson Sherk Florian Sanchez Shinya Aoki Hironaka Hansen x2 JZ Cavalcante Uno Alvarez Vitor Rebeiro Kawajiri Marcus Aurelio Hirota Beerbohm You want to say Penn's opposition is better on average ok, but that statement was far far from ridiculous Lynchberg
I actually see a younger BJ beating Aoki, the older version (maybe post 30?) gets outgrappled by Shinya though
