He's a phony. I chat with him all the time on a Facebook boxing page. He's a real *****, too. I hand him his ass on the regular.

funnily enough, i asked what i thought was a fair question on Ross Barletts facebook page (great pix by the way) about any recordings of paddy monaghans fight. Christ, what a hornets nest i stirred up, purely innocently of course. Turns out theres no footage of him as when his manager died, no-one knew what he done with the tapes. I find this difficult to believe cos if it were myself who was an unbeaten bkb champ, id make sure i had copies for myself, anyone would. If theres copies of mclean and shaw knocking around then you would think a unbeaten 114 fight world champion would be around somewhere. I dont even think there are photos

I know James Tillis is backing the campaign to have Paddy inducted to the IBHOF. There is a facebook pertition event that is picking up great pace lead by Paddys son.

It seems bull**** to me. I mean, no footage, no pictures, and no-one other than him seem to realise he was boxing. I could just as easily claim that i am a 30-0 BKB champion, although no footage and pics exist.

I heard all about this guy on some other site, he has a few pics with Ali, it dosnt really prove anything, but he apparently says Muhammad Ali is a family friend or something. OH also he claims that when Ali went to prison he campaigned to get him out and all.

In fairness i did see him on tv from roundabout mid-late 70s when Ali done a Q & A in Newcastle. Ali actually calls him up on stage and stuff, so his friendship with Ali seems genuine enough. His managers son-in-law with the surname Cook, done a bit of BKB and he swears Paddy is the real deal

He's written a couple of books on his relationship with Ali some 20 to 30 years ago. That part of his story is true.
It's many years since I read them but I do remember something about him being an amatuer boxer then turning to bareknuckles ...... but I certainly don't recall him being a world champion or being as famous as what I read on some of these threads. I'll dig the books out when I get a spare moment and see what they say. :bbb

he claims he talked to a lot of press. try and dig up some articles. he references 1975 as probably the apex of his popularity.

i'm pretty sure they wouldn't have anything in the NY Times index. Maybe in a magazine index.

Back in 1976,when I was a mere 21 year old (so what.......get on with it ! :D) Muhammad Ali was on a book signing tour for his autobiography,The Greatest. I caught him in London, and he introduced Paddy as his number one British fan.
