Robert Garcia replied to recent comments from Freddie Roach disparaging the trainer’s prized pupil, unified bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire.

“Nonito’s looked sensational for those last four fights, and I just happened to start working in his corner for those fights,” Garcia told *********** in an exclusive interview.* “Interesting, right?* He knows that everybody believes in him being an expert in boxing, and he knows that the end of the year is coming.

“With that said, a lot of people are already thinking about Robert Garcia being Trainer of the Year so he wants to say something like that so people start thinking, ‘Oh, Robert’s not that great.’* That’s my only guess.”

The Oxnard, California-based Garcia took exception to Roach’s assessment of Donaire, who has risen to the upper half of most pound-for-pound rankings.

“He is either damn lucky or the cornermen of his last four opponents are just plain dumb,” Roach told the Manila Times while running Manny Pacquiao’s training camp in Baguio City, Philippines.* “He used that same left hook to knockout [Vic] Darchinyan, [Wladimir] Sidorenko, [Hernan] Marquez and [Fernando] Montiel."

Garcia, who has been traveling between both halves of the Golden State this month training WBA lightweight champ Brandon Rios, featherweight contender Mikey Garcia, and Donaire among others, addressed Roach’s quote with a question of his own.

“What’s wrong with a fighter winning a lot of fights with a left hook to the body?” he asked.* “Nonito’s been knocking opponents out with the left hook.* Well, he does have a powerful left hook, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only punch he throws.* We practice everything, and he knows Nonito’s looked sensational.

“He’s just talking sh*t.* He wishes he had Nonito.* Who else does he have besides Manny [Pacquiao]?* [Jorge] Linares?* [Amir] Khan will get destroyed if he fights [Floyd] Mayweather.* He wishes he had Donaire.”

Roach also opined that Donaire would “not stand a chance” against featherweight kingpin Yuriorkis Gamboa, even adding, “That Cuban will kill him.”

“That wouldn’t happen,” Garcia said in response.* “If Nonito were to fight Gamboa, I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but he would find a way how to control the fight.* Nonito’s two or three inches taller than Gamboa.* He has the reach advantage.

“It’s still a year away, but why wouldn’t he have a chance? All this talk is just somebody knowing that the end of the year is coming where people start giving trainers credit and he just wants to make us look bad.”

Harsh comments by Roach. Don't understand why he would say what he did, there.

Really? Maybe you missed the incident were Garcia, Margo, and Rios were all making fun of Roach. I can totally understand why Roach would dislike him.

Mocking a person with a debilitating and life threatening disease is low. It makes the three of them scum in my book.

In case anyone hasn't figured it out yet, Roach is taking trash talk classes from the Mayweathers

Roach has been known to talk a lot of trash even before he was insulted by the three Amigos. He shouldn't get a free pass just because he is disabled. I don't condone what Team Garcia did but Roach is no better than them when he is spewing crap out of his mouth. People should take the feud with a grain of salt though. If only Donaire was big enough to fight at welterweight....wow...what a rivalry that would be. But still, it's fun to see Roach and Garcia go at it, as they should, since they are some of the best trainers in boxing right now.

Roach is hating here. Nonito is the truth.

Still Roach is ten times the trainer Garcia will ever be. And that's not hating just telling it like it is. Roach is numero uno right now noone comes close.

But Nonito wasn't involved in the mocking, was he?

And I totally forgot about that incident. Roach was upset by those comments initially, and yes, he has every reason to harber a bit of resentment towards Garcia - who, along with Rios and Tony, was being a right **** with the mocking.

And to those who say Roach deserved it because of the trash-talking he himself indulges in....are you serious? Can you not see the difference in what Roach says, and what Team Garcia did? At most, Roach has criticized the abilities and skills of other fighters. That's it. Not once has he gone personal and made fun of a debilitating disease, or anything as low as that. Even Floyd Senior, a man who doesn't hold back when talking **** on Roach and Pacquiao, was disgusted by what they did. Yes, this is boxing and you get fueds, but like with everything in life, there's a line you just don't cross.

Roach is on top in terms of accomplishments, but there's nothing that indicates he's "ten times the trainer." Aside from Pac and Khan, he has few stars or prospects.

He's great, but Garcia has been helping a lot of fighters develop as well, so they are comparable. Garcia may be on his way to developing an acclaimed training career.

The ironic thing is Manny helped Nonito with perfecting his left hook... this is well documented the interview they did together.

He hates Garcia, Margarito and Rios. What's his beef with Nonito?
