Once again, show me an actual contemporary report from a newspaper taken within a day or so of the event that shows Fulton was knocked out by Darcy. Its an easy request and it would shut me up. Not a report from six months later by one of Darcy's entourage. Not a report from five years later by someone who wasnt there. Not a report from Dempsey, or Tunney, or Kearns (none of whom were there either, in fact its unlikely Dempsey or Tunney ever saw Darcy fight). An actual, newspaperman, on the scene writing in the first person, at that time. When that is shown, then I'll accept it. Until then it remains a good story invented by Mick King to boost the Darcy legend (and his attachment to the legend is the only reason we remember him today) and to make a little money on the side while getting some publicity. No crowd, no ref, no witness, no story :-(
I have. No evidence supports this story. However, it is you that is making a claim on something to which there is no evidence. The burden of proof is on you. If you say the Easter Bunny exists its not up to me to disprove the existence of something that does not exist, the burden of proof is on you to prove that it exists. In this case I have an easier time believing the Easter bunny exists than a 5' 6" middleweight (who was taken the distance multiple times by guys who could make 147) knocked out a six foot six, 220 pound powerpunching heavyweight in two rounds, during a training session, wearing pillows. There is no evidence to support this, and nothing in Darcy's record suggests this. Or do you believe that he suddenly turned into Mike Tyson when he crossed the international dateline? The fact that people believe this actually happened, and did so in some super secret sparring session with no witness, no press, no referee, nothing, is about as ludicrous as can be imagined, and then that it wasnt leaked afterwards, when promoters were doing everything they could to build Darcy up for a massive promotion. You dont think that would have drummed up interest? A little thing like Darcy knocking out the leading HW contender in 2 rounds? GTFO!
i'm taking a relatively neutral position in this debate but the idea that fulton was the best ever heavyweight NEVER to fight for the title is not a fact but an opinion, and frankly not one i've heard a lot he was a reasonably talented 20s heavyweight who was large and knew had to use his size, apparently had decent power and beat the ghost of sam langford
come on krumdon. from jack dempseys own mouth. your the one who loves the use of quotes. theres one that just shut you the **** up. suck that dribble up white trash!
Once again, I call bull****. Nobody was trying to arrange a match between Dempsey and Darcy. Hell, nobody even knew who Dempsey was in early 1917. Just a few months earlier he had fled New York to get away from John Reisler his manager and was forced to ride the rods back West. When he got there he was broke, self managed, and willing to pick up any fights he could for extra spending money. By his own admission he was very near giving up the game. In February he was knocked out by Jim Flynn and it would be until later in the year that he was picked up by Jack Kearns, who was also on the coast and several thousand miles away from Darcy. So, tell me, who was trying to promote a fight between Dempsey and Darcy, and who were these "handlers" who travelled all the way from Utah to New York to view a private sparring session between Fulton and Darcy? Was it his brother Bernie? Nope, he was out west with Jack. Was it Fred Winsor? Nope, he was in Utah also. Was it John Reisler? Not likely, Reisler had no expectation of ever seeing Dempsey again, he certainly wasnt going to waste his time trying to match him when he had other fighters in his stable to look after. So, no, once again, this eye witness account (which it wasnt even that) is full of holes.

the civil war never happened either. wheres your proof? i'll deny every piece of evidence. that makes me right, by your reconing. darcy kod fulton. krumdon calls jack dempsey a liar. you are a total dog.
The civil war actually had eyewitness accounts. Darcy knocking out Fulton doesnt... And yes, Dempsey often lied. Shocking I know, he like Darcy, was only human.
krumdon often lies. not shocking to those who have read his dribble.. here is the truth for all others to read... http://www.darcy-niland.com.au/LesDarcy.html
