how is it laughable? a professional sports person is found to have an offensive weapon on their person, and a butterfly knife at that.

no i know what you are saying but 1) why have the knife in the 1st place? and 2) imagine if it had of been a top footballer or rugby player or something - there would be uproar and its most certainly damaged his career

And he has undoubtedly damaged his career if, as is possible, the US state department decide they dont want him in the states - good luck getting brandon rios or marquez or any good lightweight (apart from katsidis) that actually would fight him in the Uk, no?

I'm sure if a few dollar bills are passed around, he will be allowed in the United States.

United states ai'nt the UK. Once the US immigration know that you've even have an outstanding parking ticket then you are cooked. Lengthy appeal procces for even the most mundane & triveal offences He'd have to apply for a working visa & there's no chance he'll ever get in IMHO.

Or I reckon its as bent as anywhere!!

  7. The States are a lot stricter on entry for non-nationals.

If you are HIV positive you can't go in
If you've had a drink drive conviction you have trouble getting in
If you've committed crimes involving offensive weapons you have trouble getting in

Not like here, AIDS victim - yes, murderers/rapists - yes etc etc.

At the end of the day there's no excuse, a butterfly knife isn't exactly the sort of thing you'd forget having in your car or agree to carry for a mate or whatever.

He ought to know that police will recognise him in light of several drink drive convictions and also having been involved in a grow that his mum :)lol:) took the rap for.

Not true - now that the new anti-terror laws have been brought the penalties for any immigration officer accepting bungs now fall under the National Security legislation. Those days are over, if they decide that this offence makes him visa non-compliant - and case law suggests that they would - then he is barred, for life, no appeal possible. It's a different world, post-counter-terror legislation.

It's hardly like a boxer going over for a fight is going to get in secretly either.

Lets have it right lads, if you were gonna carry a blade with the intention of using it then id say a butterfly knife would be a poor choice to actually stab someone with.....its hard enough to open the thing in quick time, never mind getting it swivelled round and set up and locked in place to use!!!

Another thing aswell if he was going to use it, he wouldn't say to person he was going to use it on '' oh just wait a minute mate, let me go back to car and get my knife ''.

He was in his car at the time I presume. Who is to say he wouldn't have picked it up before he left the car?

Why are you so concerned about making excuses for his illegal weapon?
