At my gym Tuesday is sparring night, and Friday is free day and most guys spar that day too. Sometimes I'll go both days, but I mostly stick to one day a week. How about you guys, and what would you recommend to be ideal.?
i spar as often as i can, with anyone possible .. i cant say its a good thing cause in the past 2 weeks i got KOed, TKOed and 2 black eyes. Roughly 2-3 per week if i can
I used to spar something like 5-6 times a week. Virtually every training session would involve at least some sparring. Most of that was pretty full on, too. I'm not boxing any more, for the most part, but in Judo we spar every session, and I'm still getting about one BJJ session in a week which is pure rolling.
This Not full on though, since we have to go at it everyday. I love Judo, wish we did more of that in class! BJJ is alright, I'm starting to find it boring again. How long you been training for?
Only been at Judo for a few weeks. Loving it though. Very fast paced compared to BJJ. I've done BJJ for a little over 5 years.
We spar (kickboxing) on a Tuesday night for an hour, Thursday nights for 90 mins and Saturday mornings for 2 hours. Pretty intense full on sparring. But you always feel better for it afterwards.
Good amounts of sparring. But you are having pretty rough sparring there. Maybe you should ask sparring partners to take it little bit easier, if they are KOing you in sparring week in and week out. Also you should take some time off from sparring if you got knocked out
5 times a week, i train muay thai, we spar then clinch every session. I also do mma and bjj 1 day a week and we spar and roll in both them classes. I think its not good to spar every session in boxing if you are getting hit in the head too much. Atleast with muay thai all the impact isnt in the head so sparring every session isnt bad for you.
haha true, well the guys i spar are top fighters and i got KOed first time which felt weird cause i always did light sparring but recently wanted to try out the real sport, and TKO was a bodyshot in the 4th round which put me off, the black eyes are both crosses. I dont mind getting hit tho as long as i know i can hit twice as much back edit: not sparring as much now, last week was a sparring week so im gonna go back to the usual routine. Looking forward for new sparring partners tho
your sparring partners shouldnt be KOing you if you are a lower level. Body shots are fines, but if they are more experienced they shouldnt be hitting you full power to the head if they are a much higher level. I never bash people at a lower level then me, i still hit them but at only 60-70% power. I only hit hard if they start trying to hit me hard, just to let them know i can hit them hard if i want
usually we spar with 40-60% power which almost all comes from speed, this time i told them to hit me hard cause i actually wanted to see how tough i can be against shots
Man, that's more than I expected.. I just don't like getting my head rattled to often, so I stick to 1 or 2 times a week.. We are supposed to go at 60 or 70%, but that usually only last until someone lands a good shot.. Guess it depends if youre a fighter or not..
