Seems to be a forgotten fight, but it was an entertaining scrap. I thought Winky did much better than he got credit for, I had it 7-5 (Hopkins) or a 6-6 draw. Harold Ledderman, who likes pressure fighters, not suprisingly scored the fight a draw. In this case I felt his card was more accurate than the judges (who had it for BHop by a wide margain). Sky Sports had it 7-5 Bernard.

Winky looked slow, bloated and lethargic at 170, but he came to fight. Bernard (under the tutledge of Roach) looked great on his feet, and pretty much swept the early rounds. Winky won the middle rounds with Bernard appearing to slow down/tire, and Bernard gutted out the championship rounds to edge it. There was alot of mauling and mugging, but I found it to be a good fight.

Scoring and pattern of the fight (not the actual fight itself) reminded my of Floyd-Castillo I, where one fighter clearly won stretches of the fight, but in the end only one man was credited by the judges. Each fight had a 'boy this is close' feel down the stretch, but in reality the judges had a fighter comfortably ahead.

Think I had that one 8-4 for Bernard, Winky was just waaaayy out of his element fighting at 170. Should've never gone that high in weight.

When I watched it in 2007 I fell asleep. Woke up the next morning and saw the scores and thought "easy win for Nard". Had watched bits and pieces over time, but never sat down and focused on it. Wasnt that bad of a fight to me, alot of mugging and grappling though.

I could see that score. I gave Wright round 2 (I believe) which most probably didn't.

I had Hopkins winning 8-4 and it was easy money.

Had it 116-112 Hopkins. I remember it being a really ugly fight, but I thought there was a clear winner.

I had it 115-113 for Hopkins but imo that nasty cut Wright suffer in the 2nd or 3rd round hurt his chances of winning cause that cut clearly bother him badly in which of course hopkins the second greatest headbutt king took advantage.
