Pretty interesting matchup, but Toneys need to counter and his lack of feet, plus the fact that Joe Louis is one guy I could actually envision bludgeoning James enough to force a stoppage, means this ends horribly for 'Lights Out', and it could happen a any point in the fight.

Toney sticks his Tongue out at Joe after slipping one of his right hands, Louis throws hands to body and head, and proceeds to decimate him.

Toney does a # on him . Louis was not some1 2 step backwards , he might have rocked Toney and put him down , but face it , Louis never fought any1 with Toney's punch resistance , handspeed , combination punching , infighting ability . Toney would have made Louis miss and punished him .
And Louis could take it less than Holyfield could .
Louis' opposition aside from Arnold Cream was **** , he even lost by KO 2 1 **** opponent in Max Schmelling .
And then Arnold Cream did not have Toney's attributes that I mentioned .

This is not a good match up for Joe Louis. A guy with the chin, hand speed, and technical brilliance will give him trouble.

Well, Evander said he would KO Joe Louis, and I trust the opinions of a brain-dead boxer (even if it contradicts the opinions of a hundred other lucid boxers, yeah, somehow that works) over any of you keyboard warriorzzzz! Toney>Holyfield>Louis=Toney TKO4 Louis.

Louis TKO in the middle rounds. He would slowly break down Toney who liked to fight off the ropes and counter. Toney gets in a few counters over the jab but lacks the power to discourage Louis from being aggressive. He'd have a hard time avoiding Louis's left hook to the body which was followed up with barrages to the head which were near impossible to avoid unless you were borderline running from him, which was not Toney's style.

Louis was so accurate and followed through with the punches so well that it was no easy feat to "roll" with his punches as Toney was accustomed to. See how he devastated Jack Sharkey for example. He fought quite a few guys who liked to fight off the ropes and it was just never going to work against him.

Sharkey tried to pull off some slick moves against Louis until being hit by these:

Ettore was a fairly good boxer too but he was getting countered and then destroyed against the ropes:

Louis TKO9-10, after an odd-looking opening couple rounds, Toney starts to feel the hurt, has his moments with quick and sharp counters but is ultimately broken up, little by little, by Louis' thunderous shots and stopped. Toney does however match up quite well with many heavyweight titlists, in the form he showed with VJ, Holy and Ruiz, imo.

Toney would be troublesome for awhile but Louis would eventually stop him. Toney's lack of mobility would be his undoing. Prime Louis would land deadly combos on Toney and force a stoppage around the 7th or 8th round. We're talking about the best punching HW champion of all time here after all.
