school me on events leading to lewis vs. klitschko

    somebody educate me, because i don't remember... this was a fight worth paying money for... what lead to it on both sides? recent fights? how green was vitali at that time? what effect did the promoters / hbo have in the fight? the announcers definitely turned pro-vitali. larry being a pain in the ass..

    Not another VK ****ing Lewis thread

    VK at the time was a young lion with an iron chin and high Ko%. Never been in the ring with a serious top dog let alone the top dog. Put on a classic outting. The guy can Be in wars. Tough mother ****er. It was the passing of the torch fight even tho he lost.

    And lewis showed even not in amazing Shape and at 38 why he is ATG.

    Prime lewis would smash but a passed his prime lewis ripped half is face off

    well this is what happened from memory.

    Lewis was initially supposed to fight Kirk Johnson on the Card, and Vitali was supposed to fight some guy on the undercard.

    Lewis, knowing he's fighting Kirk essentially goes easy in training, and showed up at his fattest weight yet. There was a problem though, Kirk went down with an injury and he needed a replace, Vitali already being the next in line to mando challenge for Lewis' belt stepped up and that fight was made about 1-2 weeks prior to the fight date.

    And well the rest is history, Lewis TKO6 Vitali

    The genius George Foreman kept saying "He (Vitali) can end it on one right hand" numerous times despite hitting Lewis with a big number of rights

    Lewis-Vitali was supposed to be HBO PPV event in December. When Johnson got injured, HBO upped the ante and convinced Lewis to agree to face Vitali (who was on the undercard) instead in HBO live event and guarantee December PPV spot for Lewis-Jones. Lewis thought it was going be an easy fight and agreed. The rest is history: Lewis got his ass handed to him escaping embarrassment by dubious cut, everybody was screaming for rematch so Jones fight fell through and Lewis retired unwilling to face Vitali again.
