Maximum money was always his goal. I don't hate on this but the means to that ending I do hate on. His heavyweight career was a con job from the **** fight against Valuev to the awful match making vs Harrison to the bottle job vs Wlad. Cruiserweight Haye was a different anmial.

Excatly. David Haye earned most of the boxing world's respect during those 12 rounds for his defensive performance only to lose all of it with the little-toe incident. Shame really.
Disappointing end to his career but he def knew how to play the game and market himself. For someone who fought in a minor weight division and had very few HW fights his made himself a fortune so fair play for that.
I think that was a good, humble statement from Haye. I've always liked him as a fighter and have no problems saying I was a fan, especially the Cruiserweight days. The Moremeck and Maccarineeli fights were great nights and that era of boxing with Setanta too, when he was such a big part, was probably what really made me a true hardcore boxing fan. The Heavyweight career was in truth a let down but I don't feel tricked by Haye in any way, I could see the Harrison fight for what it was (though I didn't agree with it) and ultimately he did get in the ring with Wladimir but just found out he wasn;t quite good enough. No shame in that IMO though I have to say I'd be glad if he made a comeback some point next year.
Even Wlad was saying to Haye at the post fight press conference when Haye was getting onto the table to show his toe to the press Wlad said "David dont do it"...and he was very right...... As much as i would have loved to have seen Big Davey win vs Wlad, he should never have flashed his toe to the press.
I thought his performance v Vlad was awful but such a mistake to mention the toe. What was he thinking.
the stat about how many rounds he boxed is fairly incredible. considering how much money he made and mow many titles he won, its is even more incredible.
Very succesful career in financial terms, and I guess that's what really matters. He's still got his health too. But he was, and still IS, seriously overrated by some boxing fans and commentators. Not only was his heavyweight phase a bit of a joke, his cruiserweight ability and accomplishment was overblown by those who bought into the idea that he was another Holyfield, who needed to go up and beat everyone at HW. They seemed to take it for granted that he had become unbeatable at cruiser. Anyway, maybe Haye had a brilliant career. And the end of the day, it's about making as much money as possible without getting hurt. Sadly, fighters were greater and truer warriors in the days when they were more severely abused and exploited fininacially.
Haye is full of ****. He has one year before people stop begging him to come back and start forgetting who he ever was. He will be back.
