This would come down to Toney not having the speed of foot to get away from Louis. I think it's a great match up but can only see one winner.

Louis by decision or late stoppage.

Louis keeps swinging unti he hits him and knocks him out. Toney doesn't have a prayer.

Toney would give Louis some of the exact same problems Walcott and Schmelling gave him and win quite a few rounds. He probably doesn't do enough to win but if Walcott outboxed Louis, Conn outboxed Louis, Godoy possibly beat Louis, Farr possibly beat Louis, Schmelling beat Louis, then Toney indeed stands a chance I'm voting Toney to counter balance all those voting for a Louis early/mid rounds KO and making out this isn't a competitive fight, because it is

This is a great match up. Both Joe Louis and James Toney can go far in this tournament.

Toney has the abillity to not give Louis a hell of a time but to beat him.

However I think Louis is the best 200 Lbs boxer there has been.

Both Louis and Toney seem to like the ropes. Toney with his back to them and Louis having his guy with his back to them. Both will be in comfortable poistions.

In the early going Toney will slip and counter Louis and build an early lead.
Louis will be stonefaced and focused throughout the early rounds, looking for an opening.

Louis finds his opening in the 11th round. With quick pin-point combo he renders Toney helpless.

Louis in 11 rounds. Toney is ahead on the cards.

Toney did not have the attributes of Walcott and Conn which gave Louis trouble. Farr and Godoy did not possibly beat Louis. If we are looking for struggles then Toney has plenty, including being dropped by Reggie Johnson at middleweight, losing to Drake Thadzi and being embarrassed by the awful Sam Peter in a rematch.

Louis not rendering an opponent comatose + taking punches = possibly lost of course.

Anybody who voted for Toney should be ashamed of themselves.

I doubt that he would even give Louis as much trouble as some people think.

I stand corrected . My scenario is d most probable here . Toney did have a chin superior 2 every1 Louis ever faced , same with his defense and infighting . Quality from another level . Louis was embarrassed by borderline bums and 1ce KOd by 1 of them .
And I meant Louis' opposition during his prime and close 2 it , Ezzard Charles and Rocco Marchegiano were very good fighters , but Louis was shot by then .

Do you think like you type?
It appears as though you do.
Are you just too lazy to type ,is that it?
You have never made a post that was halfway decent since you came here.

Toney was usually drained & out of shape and never had d size advantage over his opponents that Louis was used 2 enjoy , either this or a big quality advantage as much as it is hilarious that Louis enjoys a quality advantage over some1 .
Peters was 12 years Toney's junior and a naturally bigger man , for comparison Toney was 6 years Holyfield's junior and a naturally much smaller man and even came in2 their fights with about 24 fights more 2 his credit ? Yet Toney stopped Holyfield and Peters wasn't close 2 stop Toney . Not 2 mention this is meant prime 4 prime .
But good that u raised these points so they could b clarified .
U could even mention David Tiberi but he was included in my reply .

He also cannot box. In a boxing ring that tends to be a big handicap.

Since you like speculation and thinking out of the box, how do we know about Peter's real age anyway? I believe Briggs (who admittedly talks a lot of stuff) claimed he used to spar with Peter in the early 90s. He may have been even older than Toney.
