If Anderson beats Sonnen again, will he overtake Fedor as the GOAT, or not?

Really dont see anything special with Sonnen. Fedor is number 1. Look at how many top class wins hes had. MW is a poor division for me. He has to campaign at 205 to get close to Fedor. Goat is based on skillset, resume and legacy for me. He has two clearly but Fedor has all three.

I read. I understood it. And i responded. My point still stands. You always seem to ramble on about thoroughly pedantic points. Il spell it out again for you in caps. If ANDERSON BEATS SONNEN HE IS NOT THE GOAT. Thought that was pretty clear from my initial post.

Boom. There's many fans that seem to buy into his own hype and his big mouth. I don't know why anyone here is even talking about him.

He maintained position well and in the 1st round his gnp had some pop, not dominance in my book. He nearly got kimura'd and leg locked whilst he had Andersons back in the 3rd round, which would have ended the fight, nearly got ktfo at the start of the 4th, which would have ended the fight, and got caught in a double whammy armbar/trinagle sub in the 5th, which ended the fight.

Chael's ''dominance'' and credit where its due, was taking Silva down, maintaining position, and landing ineffective strikes whilst gassing badly in the middle of the 2nd round

    So a resume of:

    Henderson
    Sonnen x2
    Franklin x2
    Belfort
    Okami
    Maia
    Griffin - 205
    Marquardt
    Horn
    ...

This doesn't impress you at all?

I don't think it's that Anderson can't deal with wrestlers or fighters that take him down, but if Sonnen gets him down, it's gonna be tough for anyone to get to their feet.

You really don't give Sonnen very much credit Stoo. I mean, I'm in one of those who believe Anderson almost lost the fight because of his injured ribs (and not because Sonnen was on STEROIDS OMG like a clown would believe) but I'm not foolish enough to think Sonnen doesn't have it in him to get Anderson to the ground and keep him there, it's all just a matter if he can this time.

    Well comprehended at last.

The title of the thread is:

If Anderson beats Sonnen again, will he overtake Fedor as the GOAT, or not?

And your answer in your first post should simply have been:

    No, not for me.

Viola! So we got there. Well done us. :happy

Because he is the number 1 contender and the next challenger in line. Pretending he doesn't exist would be bizarre, especially considering we're about to see a rematch of a fight which won FOTY last time. I detest the guy, but to deny his effectiveness and relevance is silly.

Ah, the old comprehension difficulties are back I see. I hope someone with more patience can explain the difference between answering no to a question which requires a yes or no answer, and saying "thread fail". Good luck.

I give him credit, he can take people down and is very good at keeping them there for 15 minutes. Except for BJJ Black belts of course, and this is a 25 minute fight too boot

If someone wins a clean sweep on the cards, I consider it a dominant performance. If it wasn't for the glorious triangle/armbar which silenced the ***** in the 5th, it would have been a clean sweep on the cards I'm sure.

Fair enough, but my point was Chael was closer to losing that fight on at least 3(including the finish) occasions in spite of this dominance and blew his chance with 2 minutes to go

Why would a guy who consistently blows fights from a dominant position push Silva to GOAT status then?

Because he's an extremely effective fighter at this point, and it would be the jewel in the crown of a long, dominant, brilliant reign. In Sonnen's last three fights which weren't against Silva, he has absolutely manhandled three top contenders in Marquardt, Stann and Okami. Yes he has a weakness in defending submissions, but it would be folly to ignore how effective he is inside the Octagon now. He's a very very dangerous opponent, and I personally think he crushes anyone on the UFC roster at 185 other than Silva.
