How much credit will you give him?

It seems to me that stylistically he has the advantage, but everything else points to B-Hop.

Given the odds, how much credit would you give Chad Dawson with a Hopkins win?

it's stupid to say that nobody gave Calzaghe credit when he was considered one of the top p4p fighters at the time.

the guy got and stll gets loads of credit.

If Joe was a slick black Yank, he'd be considered a top 10 ATG that should be a top 5 ATG but isn't getting his due because of his race.

The Roy win means next to nothing. The B-Hop win still is a great win. I'm a "Yank" and I think Calzaghe showed some great stuff in that fight. The only people that don't give him credit are haters and people that think he lost.

Even though nobody seems to be giving Chad much of a shot, you still don't think he deserves credit?

Depends on what Hopkins does after the fight.

He will get some credit as Hopkins while past his best is still a top fighter at light heavy and well regarded pound for pound, but if he does win it has to be put into context. Beating an old Hopkins is not the same as beating a prime Hopkins.

Here's a question: Would Chad beating B-Hop now be a better win than Roy beating B-Hop in 1993?

No, RJJ beat a slightly green Hopkins but RJJ was green himself so it evens out. Dawson is fighting a 46 year old Hopkins who's shown signs of his age in his last couple of fights and keep in mind Dawson is in his prime.

If Dawson wins a snooze fest on the outside in a close fight ala Taylor, he won't get too much credit just like Taylor gets little credit. But if he shows up, pushes the action and wins a wide UD or takes him out late and makes Hopkins look his age, it's a huge win. Also, like the Calzaghe fight, it depends somewhat on what Hopkins does after this fight. Most said Hopkins was done after Calzaghe and few people gave him credit. But in retrospect, that win looks better every day.

Good point. The manner of Dawson's victory will have a lot to do with how his victory is perceived. A close fight where he just edges out the ageing veteran will mean little but a dominant performance where he controls the fight and beats Hopkins in a manner we have not seen since Jones Jr beat Hopkins will earn him much kudos.

Dawson should win. Hopkins cant deal with workrate any more. Dawson doesnt throw a million punches but he does throw a lot more than Pascal. And even with Pascal sh@t workrate and stamina, he still manages to win a fair amount of rounds off the old man. People say he had an off night vs. Jones, but he didnt. It was the same old B-hop, Roy just didnt fight him with that student-teacher respect. Neither will Chad. And roy lost because of what he couldnt do, not so much what Hopkins could. If Chad fights his fight, he wins.

A lot of credit Hopkins is still a top 10 P4P boxer.
