If Anderson beats Sonnen again, will he overtake Fedor as the GOAT, or not?

One day surely to God he must confront this problem!! I can't think of another top fighter who has had such a glaring weakness over such a period of time. It really has blighted his career and he's never laid those demons to rest. It's weird.

My response to that is the same as to those who criticize GSP and Nick Diaz and whoever else for the same thing, just as they do/did with Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon in boxing - you can lay scathing criticism upon those who avoid challenges in their own division, but you can't do so with the same validity on someone who chose not to jump a weight class. I don't see it as the same thing at all. If a guy is in one division and is ducking a fight (like Floyd Mayweather is now), then there's no defence. If a guy is in one division and you're criticizing him for not moving to another division, it just doesn't carry the same weight IMO.

A Chael tap out is as regular as Christmas

It's more likely Anderson stuffs his takedowns than Chael improving his sub defence, at least over 25 minutes. He's coming off camps training for Sonnen and Okami in his last 3 anyway

Chael never will improve his BJJ significantly, if he did train daily about 4/5 years ago, he'd beat Silver, but he didnt

My dream scenario is for Anderson to catch him with a big knee or kick when he's shooting for a takedown, and then finish him off with strikes. It would be glorious. Beyond glorious.

Silva started out at 170, most LHW's are boiled down from 230 ish.

Hes greater than Fedor now by a hair. Hes older and seems to be in his prime still.

Resume wise, they're about even but the wreckage and hilite reels that Silva has left behind is far more impressive.

Would you view a second win over Sonnen next year as a great win (Hendo), a good win (Belfort), a decent win (Leben), or a nothing win (Irvin)?

Thats alright if your division is stacked but for a long time mw has been poor. Silva could easily have competed in either division, he chose the easier one

Thing is, if he had fought in LHW and fought Rua, Machida, Jackson - and Couture and Liddel if they were still relevant when Silva arrived i cant remember - IMO he'd have beaten them all, then hed have the sort of stacked resume his talent deserves

I have to disagree sorry. Gona try and do my version bare with me, PS3 browser is poor.

    Resume
    1. Nogueira
    2. Fedor
    3. Rua

Henderson, GSP and Jackson. Very good in this department.

    Legacy
    1. Fedor
    2. Silva
    3. GSP (was Hughes for the longest time)

Liddel, Penn and Hughes missing out

    Skillset

    1. Silva
    2. GSP
    3. Fedor

    Penn and Nogueira missing out.

On the rematch the potential of domination in comparison to their previous encounter would be impressive. But Sonnen (imo) while not exactly having a great resume himself, is also very suspect to submissions.
While he will work on this its his very obvious achilles heel that will be exploited again in the future. Sonnen is reliant on a poor judging criteria for me. Although he excels because of it.

Yes just because of styles. To Silva, its not a matter of an opponents name per se. Its a matter of the way he wins, precise, technical and vicious. OK Griffins a gatekeeper but hes huge even for a LHW. He got starched and got toyed same as Irvin who is massive. He is so good that id favor him at LHW against anyone not named Jones.

Hendo and Vitor are great names and to think that these two can still carve out greater legacies than they have now when Silva beat them convincingly is a testament to Anderson greatness.

I don't have time to respond properly, have to log off shortly, but I have also always said and still believe that Big Nog has the greatest resume ever compiled in MMA.

I agree with a slight reservation regarding Machida based on styles. Both counter punchers. Lyoto is such a great tactician. He has enough strength to take Anderson down and not get subbed ala Chael.

By a margin too. He and Fedor fought a few of the same opposition but Nogueira fought them first.:happy

IMO, Barnett is the #4 hw ever, and Nog fought him twice, Fedor never did. That counts as well.
