if floyd has bragged he was a champ at 154...which he was....now he is too small to fight there again?
guess you were fine fighting marquez who had
    49 featherweight fights,
    a handfull at 130-135,
    ZERO at 140,
    ZERO at 147

but i guess marquez was the same size...you know how much of a hypocrite ***** sound like? you scared for floyd?

I respectfully disagree. If Martinez is going below 154, I can see your point. But, 2009 was 2 years ago. Oscar was away from 147 for nearly a decade. Big difference, IMO. Not to mention, Martinez is not even a big MW. Though I agree he is, probably, more suited for that weight, at this point.

154 makes a whole lot of sense, IMO. Floyd moves up a division, Sergio moves down a division.

    Cool avy, btw.

In the interview, Martinez is talking about a potential fight with Mayweather.

He says that they are very advanced in the negociations. It would be a catchweight, probably near 154.

He also says that Pacquiao is a possibility too. But he would have to weigh 150-152 (68 kilos).

Day of fight weight for Mayweather against Ortiz was 150lbs. Day of fight for Martinez against Barker was 165lbs. Thus if the fight is at 152, Mayweather is already fine, no sacrifice while Martinez has to loss 13lbs to make the 152 fight weight. A 37 year old fighter losing 13lbs is far more effected by such a weight loss than a 27 year old. The Martinez that has suddenly become so popular made his fame at 160-165, he is not the 147-154lbs fighter of the past nor the one that would show for a present fight at 152lbs.

if its a catchweight for no titles 152 is fine, if its a catchweight for the middleweight title it has to be at least 155, no exceptions...

Any weight below 154 YOU ARE DEFEATING THE PURPOSE OF THE FIGHT.What makes the fight interesting is the fact martinez is so much bigger and stonger than floyd. You make him come down to 152,A WEIGHT HE HASN'T FOUGHT AT IN YEARS,you take that away.Id love to see this fight happen at 156.Floyd can come in weighing 150,like he did against oscar.

Yes..Sergio at any weight, 152 or above, is a harder fight than anyone else out there for Floyd at 160 and below.

Sergio is the one saying he's willing to drop to 150.

If it happened at 152, that'd be great. If it happened at 154, that would be awesome. If it happened at 160, holy hell...

It's getting ridiculous the big deal so many of you are making out of a catchweight. Look, the weight divisions are NOT defined by the upper limit. If one ways a 141, he's fighting at WW. If Floyd wants to fight Matinez at 152. Fine. If Martinez thinks he can get to 147 (highly doubtful), that's fine. If Floyd wants a MW title shot at 155, well guess what, that's a MW fight.

Of course, this whole catchweight thing has caused a lot of gruff sinmply because it was Pac and Top Rank. But funny thing is, the floyd fanatics who HATED the idea, dissed Pac and his fights, will be cool with this. For obvious reasons...that they are idiots...

    Belts dont mean Jack.

Im sure some meaningless organisation would be willing to put up their belt for these 2 guys to fight at 154.

Like when Hatton and Pacquiao fought for the IBO light-welter title.

Could put the ring title on the line maybe?
