FINALLY, the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of General Forumers recognize what I've been saying for years & years, that Calzaghe is not close to Hopkins's league when it comes to greatness.

It is wonderful to see so much sense on this thread, and very gratifying to see that only the usual tired old trolls are left beating the Calzaghe drum.

    Oh yes.

Common sense prevailed in the end, as I knew it would. :happy:happy:happy

ur point is not solid. A mere (SD) win doesnt mean everything please study the following chain.

    Mosley > Margarito > Cotto > Mosley :huh > Mayorga > Forrest > Mosley:huh > Margarito > Cotto > Quintana > Williams > Wright > Mosley :huh = Mora > Forrest > Mosley :huh> Margarito > Martinez > Pavlik > Taylor = Wright > Mosley :huh > Hoya > Sturm > Castillejo > Sturm:nut > Castillejo > Karamzin > Ouma > Phillips > Spinks > Mayorga > Forrest > Mosley:huh

I think that Calzaghe would almost always beat Hopkins in a fight, from the start of their pro careers until the end.

If Calzaghe had of fought on past 40, then I think Bhop would have been able to beat him then, as JC's primary assets of speed and stamina would have dropped off enough.

Does this make him greater than Bhop? No, it is only a part of the picture. Bhop has accomplished a lot more than Joe ever did, despite having 5 losses on his record.

It is a shame that Joe never really tested himself. If he did, then he might have the same 5 losses on his record that Hopkins does - or he might have made himself into a rare legend of boxing.

As it stands, Joe was the (slightly) better fighter when they met, and Bhop has accomplished much more. I figure they are about even, because I put P4P/H2H skill as the primary criteria on any ATG ranking, weighing it much more heavily than accomplishments.

Silencers 'facts' are completely wrong. Toney only had four fights at smw:Barkley, Thornton, Littles and Jones

All of the other fights were keep busy fights at lhw-cw catchweights.

Your point is that because Eubank had more world title fights it was a better win?

So accordining to your own logic,

William Joppy TKO3 Roberto Duran is a better win than Bernard Hopkins UD12 William Joppy because Duran had more world title fights than Joppy.:nut

Hopkins UD Tarver > Calzaghe UD Eubank

    1. Eubank came out of retirement while Tarver didnt:-

    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Eubank[/ame]

    2. Eubank was a late replacement of Collins, Tarver was a scheduled opponent.

    3. Eubank was training to fight at LHW against Mark Prince, Tarver was a scheduled opponent.

    4. Eubanks 2 fights prior to Calzaghe were at CW, and 2 fights after Calzaghe were at CW. Also 4/5 fights prior to Calzaghe were above SMW.

Tarver fights prior and after Hopkins have been at LHW, except his recent ones.

    5. Tarver was The Ring LHW champ, Eubank wasnt a champ.

    6. Tarver was favorite to beat Hopkins, while Eubank wasnt favored to beat Calzaghe.

    7. Hopkins went up 2 divisions to beat the man at that weight, Calzaghe didnt move up but rather Eubank moved down.

    8. Tarver went on to win a title at LHW (IBF and IBO), and also a title at CW (IBO). Eubank went on to lose every match after Calzaghe.

    9. Eubank only knew 2 weeks beforehand he is going to fight Calzaghe, while Tarver knew the same time Hopkins did.

    10. Eubank put Calzaghe on ***** street in round 12, while Tarver didnt do ****

In my opinion Chris Eubank ranks above Antonio Tarver in terms of achievment.

However we are talking about the versions that were beaten and IMO Tarver was more game than the the Eubank beaten.

Also current Jones is worse than the one that beats Tarver.

you gave two conditions to Hopkins for him to rank above Calzaghe

    1. Beat someone as good as Eubank
    2. Beat an undefeated guy as good as Kessler

Hopkins has beaten opposition as good as Eubank (31 year old version), aswell as beaten 3 undefeated former future or current champs. While Calzaghe has beaten 2 Lacy and Kessler.

Calzaghe UD12 Kessler was close but clear. Kessler gave Calzaghe trouble in his hometown.

Hopkins KO'd both Johnson and Trinidad, first man to do so.

Calzaghe schooled Lacy, Hopkins schooled Pavlik.

Tell me where is the substansial difference, IMO Hopkins has beaten far better undefeated fighters than Calzaghe has.

    Anyway please vote.
