De Gale looks class up close, nice hooks and uppercuts. He looks terrible going forward. His jab needs to be improved and used more. Tonight he took right hand after right hand from range, and if the Pole had been a banger he would have stopped him. Jimmy Mac does seem out of his depth with De Gale. I am not sure how far he will go, after Smith I thought he was a cert. So not wanting to make the same mistake twice I will wait and see for a bit. But there are more questions than answers now .

Naz fought Belcastro for the European title in his twelfth fight. Belcastro was world class, Naz was about 21 without the amateur pedigree. I think James showed a lot of flaws tonight.

Degale looks good at times but he is so hittable it's untrue. Against a bigger puncher he'd have been stopped.

He did show heart tonight but he has to force that heart out. Compare him to Cleverly for example, when he gets hit and hurt he grits his teeth instinctively and fires back, you can see it, but degale has to think about it, he just doesn't have as much heart as some...

Degale is a good fighter but his defence needs serious work imo...and he's certainly no Floyd Mayweather...

Fully agree with you. The polish guy was i'd say better and of course miles more experienced than any of the guys de gale (or grooves for that matter) has fought so far. And he clearly won. An excellent return to the ring. although I do hope he has a few more fights! before stepping up to top level.

I warmed to DeGale a bit tonight. He showed character against a more experienced opponent, and came back from some adversity.

He showed a poor defence, poor fighting on the front foot and bad fighting at long range but still found a way to win.

I dont know how much further he can go without big improvements, and I dont know how committed he is too improving, but I hope he goes on to fulfill his potential as i think he will make a world champion.

I think he will be a better fighter after what he went through tonight.

The guy showed a fair bit of character tonight and to some degree went in the trenches.

He showed most of the same flaws that Groves exposed in him. He hasn't grown.

Except it's 30 odd pointless fights. With about two notable opponents, one was shot to **** (stopped in a round by Macklin) and another he lost to him in 3 rounds. DeGale's arguably way more experienced.

Wilczewski looked like he stole George Groves' gameplan and at times DeGale looked even more confused tonight and probably got caught even more. Haven't seen any punch stats because the channel it was on but I'd bet good money that the Pole landed more punches than Groves did.

Like I said, DeGale deserves a bit of credit for just getting through and it was good to dig in.

I haven't got a problem if he wants to be a prospect. But he ain't on prospect money, he doesn't talk like a prospect and he doesn't even look that promising IMO.

The problem was DeGale thought he boxed just fine against Groves. He'll know he has be better after the Pole.

so he lost to groves, but thought he boxed fine, wins against the pole, but will thimk he needs to improve? the former sort of disproves the latter, dude...

You are talking about the result which is not the same as how he sees his performance.

DeGale dug in and did ok inside but that is it. No fluidity, poor defence, no jab and he at times was afraid to let his hands go and his head movement was zero.

I cant remember so many people saying a guy needs a new trainer so much.

I think people are being rather fickle here

In what was about his 9th fight he thoroughly outclassed a fighter who was top 3 domestically.

Two fights later, a close loss to an old foe and a tight win later and people are all over his back
