The Pascal and Diaconu fights SHOULD have showed a fighter as smart as Hopkins all he needs to know on the beating Dawson topic.

Now, we'll see if he has the tools to actually pull it off. Brilliant as he is, he is an old man, and this is the most physically gifted mover he's fought since Taylor.

    Round 1

It's the Dawson Right Jab Show. Hopkins doing nothing so far. Dawson comes in, jabbing hard from a half-crouch and rolling his shoulders in alternating motions to either side. Hopkins just circles, wary and keeping distance. Hopkins straight up runs along the ropes, then rushes in to clinch. The referee has a difficult time instructing them to break, as their feet get tangled and they lean together against the ropes. Dawson comes forward jabbing. Hopkins dives in with a right to the body and then envelops Dawson in his arms. Referee calls a break. Combo to the body by Dawson. Hopkins backs up, not trying to engage at all. Dawson chases reluctantly, not able to counter. Lead left to the body by Dawson. Sloppy exchange on the ropes, clubbing right hook by Dawson as Hopkins ducks.

    10-9 Dawson

Close round. I liked Dawson based on the jabs up and down and the one nice combo. Close one though.

    10-9 Dawson.

well perhaps. BUt I think Hopkins handpicked Pascal so he could win the title, and when he saw how not so good Pascal was and that Pascal did get the title from Dawson, he figured why not chance it. Also he saw something in Dawson that he felt he could exploit after he beat Pascal. But it started with Pascal. Maybe Hopkins overrated his win over Pascal. Maybe we all did. We will see. This fight is up to Dawson and not Hopkins and if he can fight his fight and control with his speed.
