Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson & undercard RBR

Duke Mkenzie did say a few hours earlier that Hopkins had fought them all "including Toney"...so I tend to take what he says with a grain of salt.

What about that time when the ref pulled Hopkins off his opponent and Hopkins fell through the ropes and couldn't continue. There was no foul, but the bout was ruled a NC.

he did grab Hopkins left leg and hold it up and pull up on Hopkins a little.. But Hopkins didn't go down that hard and Hopkins threw his legs up when he went down to be dramatic like it was a big fall. And the shoulders didn't seem to hit that hard. Hopkins knew Dawson pulled on the leg a little and tried to make it into a DQ so he would win.

what I think his disgraceful is Hopkins gets paid for this, and then gets a rematch and gets paid millions again.

 

When a fighter acts in a way that can allow another fighter to act or fake an injury (Hopkins-Dawson, Abraham-Dirrell... yes they're different) it's hard to defend the fighter that helped create that situation, even if you can sympathize with his reasons to do so. I think Chad acted a little recklessly. He was bringing the fight to Hopkins hard and surprisingly was starting to boss him a little. He didn't need to be rash, and dare I say unsportsmanlike. He gave Hopkins the chance to act hurt, and now there's a chance this fight gets overturned to a NC. If it does I'm not going to sympathize with Dawson. He acted like a punk.

 

Very smart. First I was upset for Dawson for all the training he went through to lose his opportunity to a BS DQ IMO. Then I was upset for the fans who paid to go see the fight and us who paid for the PPV. He had a history and this looked no different. I'm glad it was ruled a TKO for Dawson. That was a classless act IMO and another bad look for boxing. It will be that much worse if Hopkins gets rewarded a DQ by tomorrow.

 

You're exactly right. I'm watching the replay. Chad intentionally hooks him and leans his shoulder in .... definite FOUL (BHOP wasn't in control of his landing DUE to the actions of Chad ... this will or should be a NC in the end. If he had merely taken the collision and Hop had still fallen it would be different.

You didn't buy into the faking until the rest of ESB started on about it. There's a chance he could've been legitimately hurt, right? And if Dawson grabbed his leg then... well. A NC would seem justifiably in order.
