Your opinions folks? No Contest or TKO? Real or fake? Is Hopkins an acting, cheating, piece of crap or a crafty veteran who plays the breaks to his advantage?
Great fighter though he was I'm hoping the TKO stands because Hopkins has been pulling this bull**** for years and today it finally backfired on him. Also I think Dawson is a bloody good fighter and deserves to be the man at 175. But yet again a fight of major interest has descended into farce with a controversial ending and some questionable officiating. Frankly I'm sick of it and I'm stuffed if I'm going to shell out $60 for another ppv fight ever again after being burnt by Mayweather-Ortiz as well just a month back.
If what Hopkins said after is true, this is totally rash... "I said I was ready to continue with one arm." "Did he tell you at any time, "get up or it will be over" Bernard?" "No."
**** Hopkins. Both. He can look spectacular when he's able to take charge early and make the opponent fight his way, but when his opponent doesn't take the bait, he either doesn't fight or looks for a way out. He's almost like a child who has to have things his way, or not at all.
Good point there. He spent the last third of the Calzaghe fight just trying to quit, but was allowed to get away with it. Then he had the balls to ***** about the decision. :roll: What a disgrace.
That's the thing when you start stage-managing your career: the line between acting and reality disappears. I don't think Hopkins himself knows if it was bull**** or not. But the discerning fan knows :good
He's an old man and Calzaghe sets a cracking pace (which is no excuse for the way he carried on in that fight) but he stooped to pulling that crap with Roy Jones' corpse as well. I'm going to watch the first Robert Allen fight again as I'm beginning to think that the foul,fake injury combo is a practised Hopkins tactic when I'd always thought that his injury in that fight was real.
He at least deserves the courtesy of people waiting for the results from the hospital before we bin him. If it's a tiny tear or some ****, that's a joke, but Solis's knee was exploded, and everyone started giving him pelters on the forum...which was embarrassing.
He deserves that courtesy about as much as Roberto Duran deserves the courtesy of sending his shorts to forensics looking for **** stains after the second Leonard fight. It was a ***** move, pure and simple...
Very good shout. Something like this would have spared us thirty years of controversy and arguing. Exactly the type of restraint i'm looking for.
